I'm not a big fan of the flexi leashes with CORD as I've seen them get wrapped around people and slice fingers. But when I saw that they now are available as a belt instead of a cord I decided to give them a try.
They are PERFECT! My dogs have 16 feet of roaming that they can do as I walk along down the gravel road (one dog in each ditch). If they want to be near me (or I call them to come), the leash retracts at the perfect tempo to keep light tension on the leash so no more tangled legs. When I need to reel them in for safety reasons, the leash works fantastic as I extend my arm, lock the leash, then pull the dog toward me and release the leash/repeat the extend/pull/lock until he's as close as I need him.
I now can even go running with my dogs without getting yanked, tripped, etc. The 16 feet gives them time to even lift a leg for a quick marking, then run and catch up before I'm more than 16 feet away.
I bought 'bigger' (this is for up to 77 lb dogs and my dogs are 25 and 35 lbs) for a higher safety factor. The tension is not too much for their size at all, and once when they hit the end of the leash at a dead run when a deer ran right in front of them, I had no worries that they would snap the belt.
LOVE LOVE LOVE how much more pleasurable walks are now with my very energetic dogs who think that 'heel' is a dirty word.
However, it should be said that these leashes are for people with dogs who are already leash trained. If your dog is not leash trained you should definitely NOT start out with a retractable 16' leash, as you will never accomplish "heal" or walking nicely, you'll just get yanked around by your dog. Start out with a 3-6' leash, then when your dog is a good walker and you have accomplished training, graduate to this Flexi leash.
For those of you with "pullers," like us with our siberian huskies, you should know that we have never had issues with this leash snapping or breaking. Our big boy, who weighs about 80 pounds and has a massive pull weight, has never been able to break these leashes, no matter if the pull started out as sudden or was gradual. It should be noted that we also use Holt's head collars while walking our two, as we'd have a hard time maintaining control without them. The reason we are on our second pair of Flexi leashes after 3 years is that the retractable spring in one gave out on its' own accord (thank the big boy) and our female managed to get ahold of the other and chewed the clip off the end.Read more ›

I love the grip of this leash and the mechanism works great for locking in the leash. My only complaint is that it easily twists up since it's a flat belt that when my dog pulls... Read morePublished 13 months ago by JustMe
