Editorial Reviews
Review
Paul Gosselin's Flight from the Absolute: Cynical Observations on the Postmodern West reminds me of a brilliant book from three decades ago, Herbert Schlossberg's Idols for Destruction (1983). Schlossberg's book, the product of enormous reading, connected the dots of American politics, economics, culture, and philosophy. Quebec resident Gosselin does the same in two volumes originally written in French and more analytical of European writers than Schlossberg's American-based work. (Janie B. Cheaney - World News)
... If you're looking for an extremely well-documented examination into how secular modernism and postmodernism -- and especially Darwinian thinking -- have harmed the West, you'll probably want to add the two volumes in Flight from the Absolute to your collection. (Casey Luskin - Evolution News)
There is no lack of books on the various distinctions between modernism and postmodernism, nor on the benefits and dangers of the latter, but few have captured the full picture and even fewer have offered a precise, clinical analysis of the hidden project, methods, and ethos of postmodernism. As I recently learned, a Canadian critic named Paul Gosselin has written such a book, one that has been available in English for the past six years and in French for the past 12--but it remains all but unknown in America. Flight from the Absolute: Cynical Observations on the Postmodern West, Volume I, skillfully translated by the author from his Fuite de l'Absolu: Observations cyniques sur l'Occident postmoderne, volume I, presents the best, most comprehensive critique I have read, not only of the postmodern worldview, but of how that worldview has been disseminated in such a way as to mask its presuppositions.
Louis Markos (2018) This Book Ably Dissects The Contradictions at The Heart of Postmodernism. (The Federalist)

This is now in my top five philosophical/apologetic books. Volume one and two are brilliant! I will be recommending these books to all my friends who are like minded. Extremely insightful on worldviews and culture. These books are a must read. Scholarly.

A work all thinking men should read and discuss. A great work for our time. It should be put in the hand of every student en route to college.

In 1969, I read Francis Schaeffer's book Escape from Reason, which was my first introduction to an analysis of the emerging culture of modernism and postmodernism. At that time, that kind of thinking was avant-garde and there were still vestiges of Christian culture left in society. Now, in 2014, postmodernism is the dominant thinking in our culture, where absolute standards of morality from Christian thinking have been rejected, replaced by a morality that is self-focused, defined by standards imposed only by a person's free will. Paul Gosselin examines the consequences of this cultural shift from a Biblical viewpoint. He shows the drift of modern culture from the despondency of postmodern thought into neo-paganism. Though the postmodernist has atheistic materialism as its foundation, there still is a search for meaning, and often it involves attraction to spiritual things, usually demonic in nature. Paul's book is a call for Christians to recognize their participation in this cultural morass and to abandon it in favor of embracing the full gospel of Jesus Christ.

An excellent guide to begin to think critically about roots of today's decline of humanity.

This book gives a rare and critical look at the historical development of the Western postmodern worldview. Certainly worth of reading and I would surely recommend it to anyone. In fact, in these days when we are fed with scientifically proved information with a lot of ballast, this book is perfect trigger to begin to think critically about many assertions and declarations on belief, morality, evolution, homosexuality, role of media, syncretic philosophy that are taken by the general public as granted. This book provides a deeper look to anyone who wants to think and find out more than one can find in comfortably accessible media.

In some sense this book is a complete guide on how to expose and demolish the very numerous flaws and ill consequences of atheism, secular humanism (same thing as atheism) and Darwinism, all in one highly detailed, in depth and highly researched work.
The author deals expertly with all of the standard arguments against traditional values, the absolute moral law, absolutes in general and of course the new scientism - evolutionism or neo Darwinism.
By the time you finish reading this two volume series, you will understand why so many people are turning away from atheism and all its endless self-contradictions, and in volume 2, why many highly influential people are saying that Darwinism is dead.
The book exposes the roots of metaphysical materialism underpinning our whole secular culture with Darwinism as its "origins myth". It reveals the highly religious nature of Darwinisms philosophical foundations, its disciples and its modern "stealth Metaphysical Naturalist" (a very old religion) "high priests".
This is something the flippant, shallow and appallingly ill reasoning "New Atheists" will hate immensely. It deals out death blow after death blow to virtually everything they claim! And that with very little left to debate. The contents will force you to re-examine what you you think is "true", what you think you know.
Reading through this requires a grasp of basic philosophy and a sharp faculty of reason and the use of logic. Its not necessarily a layman's guide and will require you to polish up your logic and reasoning faculties.
One of the wonderful things about this book is how deftly and thoroughly it debunks the common "politically correct" secular humanist codswallop that's been pushed down the throats of the unsuspecting public for over 70 years now -through the public education system's curriculum. A curriculum designed and ensconced in the Western public education system by the "father of modern education" John Dewey et al., deeply devoted Marxist atheists who designed this curriculum specifically to create a dependent society without individuals. As he stated,"You can't make Socialists out of individualists -- children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming, where everyone is interdependent."
John Dewey, Charles F Potter etc. - among the founders of the secular humanist plan to "dumb down" and control Western society like sheep, would be angry and wishing to silence the trumpet voice of this book against their heinous and foolish ideas. More recently Richard Dawkins and his "new atheist" incompetent thinkers, should all be very worried that this book attains wide spread success!
Highly recommended reading for the serious thinker wishing to find facts and ready to reason to get to the truth.
You remember that rare commodity don't you? Truth? ;-)
Buy it, you'll be happy you did!
