The second part of what was supposed to be a series. I am looking now for what was to be #3. It was finished by another author and is being printed. This is a great adventure and reads a lot like Edgar Rice Burroughs fantasies and sci-fi.

Finding Farmer was a rewarding way of continuing a childhood love affair into adulthood
Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2017Verified Purchase
I grew up with Tarzan and John Carter of Mars. Finding Farmer was a rewarding way of continuing a childhood love affair into adulthood. (And full warning: Some of his stuff can be very adult!) If you approach this for what it is, a couple of hours worth of harmless escapism, it truly is worth the read.

Flight to Opar - Restored Edition is the DEFINITIVE edition of the second installment of Philip José Farmer's Ancient Opar/Khokarsa series. The Restored Edition includes passages that were apparently deleted from the original DAW edition, for no other reason than to make a page/word count. These includes some interesting world building nuggets that offer some more insight into the mythology Farmer created for Khokarsa. The creation myth regarding the Strait of Keth is a personal favorite of mine that appears in this new edition. There's also some nice bonus features including Farmer's outline of the novel, early notes on the Khokarsa series, and a cross-sectional map that Farmer drew of Opar. There's also a Guide to Khokarsa, an essay on the language of Khokarsa, and a handy glossary. There is also an informative preface by the editor of this edition, Christopher Paul Carey, on the process of restoring the passages and his mindset in editing the book.
As for the story, it's a damn good one. It picks up where Book 1 of the Khokarsa Series, Hadon of Ancient Opar (Khokarsa Series #1 - Wold Newton Prehistory) (Wold Newton Novels) left off. This is fast paced adventure novel that's sure to thrill fans of both jungle adventure and sword-and-sorcery. If you've been waiting on Book 2 of the Khokarsa Series, join Hadon and his friends on their attempt to fulfill a prophecy, which will see them free-falling south through he Khokarsan Empire with Hadon's home city of Opar as their end goal.
