A Clear VFR Flight Plan To Success in the most IFR Conditions. Don't let anyone stop you....
This book resonates with what I do day to day, in the design of Medical devices.
As an aviator, as well as an Engineering project manager, this book resonated with challenges that I face day to day. As a private pilot with a commercial rating, I appreciated the analogies between flying and project management. For example, procrastination during flight can have disastrous consequences, as is procrastination during a project. Proficiency is important for an Aviator, as is subject matter expertise for a manager. I do not fly these days as I do not have time to maintain proficiency. Each of the chapters, in this book, has valuable project management advice. You need not be an Aviator to benefit, from this book. It does help to know the terminology of Aviation to fully resonate with the advice in this book. I recommend this book highly for anyone who needs sane and cogent advice to succeed.
In simple, straightforward and no-nonsense terms, Ms. Petitt lays out a game plan much like a pilot plans a flight. Using this wise analogy, she helps you preflight your life, plan your route, prepare for contingencies enroute, bad weather, diversions and destinations. Whether a pilot plotting your own career or simply dreaming of living a better life in general, her concrete plan takes you there.
This book is chock full of not only her own sage advice and profound wisdom, but that of others as well, from Lincoln to the Dalai Lama. Some of my favorite from her:
—Spar with Fear. Fear is a Personal Trainer...similar to lifting weights.
—Events do not define you, your choices do. You get to decide if you want to become a victim or the successful person you were born to become.
—There are two types of people who become successful: those that were told they could do anything and believed it, and those who were told they were worthless and DID NOT believe it! CONFIDENCE IS A CHOICE.
YOU ARE THE HERO OF YOUR STORY!
Read this book, then live your life to the fullest!
Disclosure: I am a fellow airline pilot and writer. I know Ms. Petitt personally. And, knowing her, I also know that she has poured her personality and the secrets of all of her amazing successes (airline pilot, professional writer, CNN Correspondent, 2 Masters degrees, PhD candidate, mother and grandmother) into this work. The reader will be hard-pressed to find a more qualified candidate for writing this amazing book!
