As you read through any of K.L Montgomery’s books, it’s like walking through life. Her stories are so well mastered that you forget you’re reading and feel as though you are part of the world that’s laid out before you. The Flip is no different in this aspect.
Sonnet and Andrew are two characters who fight their way into your heart with witty puns and bursts of aggravation as they are forced to work together to flip a house left to them by Andrew’s late Aunt.
It’s no easy feat to flip a house, and when the person you’re forced to spend so much time with is someone you’ve hated since high school, there’s bound to be sparks.
Sonnet and Andrew’s story doesn’t disappoint as tempers flare, sparks fly, and the battle of wits between them will leave you laughing and asking for more. This is a beautifully written story.
The Flip was cute, funny and at times downright hilarious. There is nothing like falling in love with your high school enemy than having to remodel a house together. You learn so much about a person and realize they are as bad as you perceived them to be.
I am absolutely in love with this book. The interaction between Andrew and Sonnet (competitive adversaries since childhood) and what they thought of each other cracked me up. This is my first book by this author and I can't wait to go back and read the first of this series, as well as her other books.
I loved the way the story unfolded while giving us tidbits of the past and how these two arch enemies became the way they were. The flow of this story was perfect and I loved the change of perspectives throughout.
Aunt Penny and Serenity were my favorite characters in this book, well of course next to Sonnet and Andrew. The author was really creative with the hilarious obstacles that kept popping up while they were redoing the house left to them, from millipedes to rusty nails, sinkholes and then oh my goodness an alligator in Delaware. I laughed out loud so many times. This book just plain made me feel good, I Loved It!!!!
Sonnet Jayne has always had to prove herself. In school she had to prove that she was the best academically. That it didn't matter if she wasn't cool or even well liked. In college she had to prove that she was in the right place, on a course made up of 95% guys. And in her life in general she had to prove that she had what it takes to work at NASA even though she is female.
When Sonnet learns that her next door neighbour has passed away and left her house to a Sonnet on her will at first she is ecstatic. That is until she learns who the co-owner happens to be. Now it is time to prove to him that she isn't the same person she was back in high school, that she can't be bullied like he used to. And she has to prove to herself that this is the case.
Andrew Clarke had it all in high school, the good looks, the popularity and the good humour. Since leaving school he can't say he has honestly done much with his life. He finished college only to do nothing with the qualification afterwards. Instead he bar tends and dreams of opening up his own business. A dream that seems further away by the minute.
When he receives a letter telling him his Aunt Penny has left her house to him he knows this is his chance to make those dreams happen. That is until he learns that the co-owner is his arch nemesis from high school. Suddenly it all seems much more difficult.
In a bid to turn the house around and get it on the market Sonnet and Andrew must learn how to set aside their differences and the past and try to find a way of working together. Something they realise is much easier said than done. When it comes down to it, will they be able to work through their grievances, and in the process replace old grudges with something else?
Although I found this quite slow at first this book certainly picks up the pace. The banter between the two characters is brilliant and had me laughing the whole way through. The connection was evident right from the start, even if they didn't see it at first. Well written and entertaining this was a thoroughly enjoyable read!
The synopsis of the K.L. Montgomery's new release "The Flip" had me one clicking away upon first glance. Who doesn't love a good love/hate book where arch enemies are forced from beyond the grave to flip their beach house for profit. It flashed me back to the awesomeness of the movie Money Pit all over again!
While Montgomery kept me mildly entertained by uptight Rocket Scientist, Sonnet and her underachiever, slacker nemesis, Andrew I never quite bought into the whole promise of a love/hate trope or the chemistry between the two characters.
Montgomery does however live up to her quirky romance by providing light hearted side characters and some funny flipping moments. It is those moments that turn this light hearted read around allowing me to give her 3.5 stars. With some more love and a lot more hate, The Flip could definitely be a read that I'd truly engage in and want more of.
