His attention to different types of stress and how it affects our central nervous system was helpful. The science behind the disorder and the science behind float tanks and why they help us physically and mentally is sound, well written and easy to follow. I was especially impressed with his initiative in creating a float tank for himself when buying one was such a financial challenge. It's the mark of someone searching for a solution to his problems and willing to go the distance to find that solution. The idea that he's sharing it with others is icing on the cake. I highly recommend this book to people struggling with stress, mental disorders and health issues or for anyone truly interested in something both healthy and worthwhile.
I’m also getting this book in the paperback format to give to my husband who suffers from anxiety and has never liked the side effects the medicines give him. He will be able to benefit from the wisdom imparted here. And maybe Mr. Scott will have persuaded him to give this a try? I’ve already looked up the nearest float center and will be giving hem a call.
This book is not your typical “self-help” book, it is Mr. Scott’s story of how he discovered floating, the benefits he was able to reap from it and how he was able to eventually bring it to others in an affordable way. This book I think is best for us newcomers to take away that strangeness and get us acquainted with what Floating really is all about.
In my opinion, Shane has some really good ideas. His think tank is inspiring and I wish I had the space/money to come up with my own. I’ve always found the ocean soothing…except for the periods of time that I suddenly believe I am going to be shark bait and thus quickly leave the water. (Of course, the tank isn’t all Shane talks about!)
Above all though, I really enjoyed Shane’s story. I think sometimes hearing the plight of someone else can actually help out more than anything. It makes you feel a lot less alone, which is nice when the anxiety or depression isolates you from the rest of the world.
It’s a great read for anyone who has to face these challenges, as well as those who love someone that faces these challenges.
After he found meditation only alleviated some of his anxiety he searched for another way to help him enough to get off the medication, or even heal him. He sought out float tanks and decided to build one in his basement, this was the beginning of a stress relief remedy he was seeking.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who has mental problems, or trying to cope with physical pain, or even has someone close to them who does. He gives a lot of the why behind why you should float, and he believes this could befit all people even if to relief you from day to day stress.
