The short, yet strong, chapters that built together wove a really enticing and powerful human story of connection across several continents. There is a great balance of humor, pathos, tragedy, heroics, and passion linking devastation with opportunity, trust, and faith. This book showcases the roller coaster ride involved in getting a project off the ground.
At every turn, the extraordinary will of a group of strangers from a variety of cultures makes powerful reading. This is a manual also about receiving favor, having focus, and practicing the fortitude to see a project through to the end. The hunger to stop at nothing until the goal is achieved was astonishing.
I loved the wisdom and the quotes that are liberally sprinkled through the book. Great ideas must of necessity be confronted by negativity and discouragement. This empowers people to become more inventive and creative. Delay and obstruction empower us to hold our nerve. This book is about being a friend to the least. This book is a training manual on how to get things done against the odds.
My favorite quote? "Nobody is superior, nobody is inferior, and nobody is equal either. People are simply unique and incomparable. VIP's = very important poor." Brilliant!
