"One of the leading voices in the farmer-florist movement, Erin is a tireless advocate for locally-grown flowers. Here she has put together an indispensable four-season growing guide that will inspire you to sow your own cutting garden-whether you plant one row or hundreds." - Melissa Ozawa, garden and features editor, Martha Stewart Living
"I met Erin Benzakein more than ten years ago when she was a young mom growing sweet peas and dreaming of making her living from flowers. With passion, focus and seemingly limitless endurance, Erin has achieved her dream. And now she's sharing that dream with the world - everyone from fellow flower enthusiasts to emerging farmer-florists to veteran designers yearning for a new, seasonal and sustainable model of floristry. The essentials are all here in the pages of Floret Farm's Cut Flower Garden, and like everything Erin does, it is both lovely and practical. This is a comprehensive, must-have companion as you pursue your own authentic life in flowers." --Debra Prinzing, author and founder of slowflowers.com

- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2017Erin Benzakein is a pioneering farmer-florist and advocate for locally grown flowers. Having learned her trade through trial and error (read: blood, sweat, and tears), she has bestowed an incredible gift upon flower farmers and home gardeners alike with her first book, Floret Farm's Cut Flower Garden.
The first thing you'll notice is how beautiful the book is. It's a work of creative art in its own right thanks to Michele M. Waite's gorgeous photos, and is well complemented by a clean, modern, and organized layout. In addition to its inherent beauty, it's also wildly substantial: Erin has packed over 300 pages of information between those beautiful covers!
Basics are covered in the beginning. From garden planning and seed starting, to soil management and even tools. Next, you can browse by season for a tasks list, plant spotlights, and then projects including the author's signature natural floral designs.
As a flower farmer-florist, you can bet this book will be in heavy rotation for both reference and inspiration. So far it's been equally at home on my lap by the fire and at my desk while planning for the growing season. For me, the seasonal organization is a lifesaver: I can quickly flip to whatever season I'm currently in to make sure I'm not forgetting any important tasks, or to gain a bit of inspiration.
I'll also note how much I appreciate Erin's authenticity. For example, I was thrilled to see it printed on FSC-Certified paper. Well-used tools are photographed rather than shiny new props. You'll spy weeds and muddy farm boots, because, well, that's what farming and gardening entails.
Thank you, Erin, for pouring your heart and soul into this work for farmers and gardeners around the world. I hope it inspires more people to get their hands dirty, and helps further our community's mission to cultivate a wider appreciation of, and demand for, local sustainably-grown flowers.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2024This book I bought to help me start a cutting garden. The author is awesome and it tells her story of how her Grandmother got her interested in gardening. Mine did too but it’s taken me a long time to have the time to start my own. She gives you all the info you need. It’s well written and beautiful photos. I love the book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2024This is my first book on growing flowers and I enjoyed reading it . Erin’s explanations are direct and easy to understand. This book is beautiful all the way to the end . The pictures are stunning .
I started experimenting planting my own flowers two years ago but I have been very hesitant to expand my flower garden . This book excites me to experiment and explore more .
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2022Where to even begin?! This is an exquisite book. I love flowers and have desired to start a small cut garden for years. I have never tried from sheer overwhelm and never having a in depth guide to refer too. This books is so loaded with information, I feel like I have a mentor to hold my hand through this process. The book is such a joy to read and I find myself not only more educated but truly so inspired by all the beautiful flower varieties I have been introduced to on these pages. The author covers everything from start to finish to help you create a opportunity for year long blooms and includes many cost effective solutions to some of the pricier aspects. Key to me for a first time gardner who doesn’t want to shell out hundreds on the first try. The pages are a beautiful high quality matt and so elegant to look at. I cannot say enough about this book and I really believe that even a seasoned gardener will find inspiration and learn a thing or two from this industry expert
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024This is a wonderful book on growing flowers, featuring stunning photographs. However, I would have appreciated more detailed, step-by-step guidance on how to grow specific flower seeds. I particularly love the creative idea of incorporating other materials to use extra greenery in bouquets—it's a truly unique and inspiring approach.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2024Love the book - it is easy to read, and has many topics to help the novice flower farmer -- like me, First and foremost --- Don't be overly ambitious when starting out.

As a gardening enthusiast, Floret Farm's Cut Flower Garden has completely transformed my approach to growing and arranging flowers. This book is not just a guide; it’s an inspiring journey through the art and beauty of seasonal blooms.
The content is both educational and accessible, making it ideal for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike. Erin Benzakein's passion shines through every page, offering detailed tips on planting, harvesting, and creating stunning floral arrangements. The step-by-step instructions are clear, and the advice on seasonal planning has helped me maximize my garden’s potential.
The photography is breathtaking—each image feels like a piece of art, showcasing vibrant flowers in all their glory. It motivated me to experiment with new varieties and rekindle my love for gardening.
What I appreciate most is the personal touch. Erin's stories and insights create a connection, making the experience feel like getting advice from a trusted friend.
This book is a must-have for anyone who dreams of growing their own flower garden or simply appreciates the magic of nature. Highly recommended

A very colourful book with great photographs of flowers in Washington State, USA. Still useful for growers in the UK as there are useful guidelines for a wide range of cut flowers. Experienced growers may not find much beyond the range of species that they already grow but they can still enjoy the colours.

I bought this book a few years ago, stopped growing Flowers and sold it to another flower farmer. Decided I can't do without it so have purchased it again.

Well organised, chapters are laid out properly, chronologically and then information reassumed specifically on each plant and flowers section.
