About the Author
Jan Sikes is a new author, although not new to writing. She has written songs, poetry, screenplays and short stories. Growing up in a small dusty town on the Texas-New Mexico border, she and her sister found adventures untold through avidly reading books (many times late into the night, under the covers, with a flashlight). Little did she know, all of that reading was early training for becoming an author. Her years of being married to Rick Sikes proved to be the launching pad for her writing career. After his death in 2009, she got serious about it and the result is the first book of a series, “Flowers and Stone”. She resides in North Texas and when she isn’t writing, you will find her volunteering at the various music festivals across Texas or playing with her three grandchildren.

Darlina and Luke’s love was indeed the stuff of which romances are made. They loved, and expressed their love in a way that can almost be described as erotic. When danger came knocking, their love stood firm. Even when Luke was arrested, accused and imprisoned for bank robbery, Darlina stood firmly behind him, believing him innocent, and falsely accused.
Luke too harbored the same deep love for Darlina, but made it his priority to keep her out of his woes. It baffled me though, that when he decided to do so, he did not leave her any money to help her start over… I love reading this story, especially as it helped me appreciate more the sequel to it. I found several editing problems in the story which did not interfere with the flow of the story, but which, I believe the author should go back and address.
I am so proud of her work in this effort. The story is real life but is so big it seems like the best fiction ever! This couple had the most intriguing relationship that I personally have encountered. Jan now has given the world a chance to see and experience it up close. Congratulation to her again!
Now as kind of an insider I have to say, you ain't seen nothing yet! There has to be another book cause the story isn't finished! Rick Sikes was an incredible man, flawed, rough, hard, yes but also an artist of immense talent. I loved this book and want you to enjoy it like I have.
