Unfortunately after having multiple failures with this expensive Fluke 52-2 dual input digital thermometer, I can NOT recommend it to anyone. If you've been around the scientific, electronics, auto or similar industries any time in the past 20 years then you know Fluke was once considered the top-of-the-line in instrumentation. I have multiple Fluke meters and the 52-2 digital thermometer has been totally unreliable.

The first issue is the variation in temp readouts between J and k thermocouples. That should not exist. The second issue is the accuracy which is a lot higher tolerance than one would expect from a ~$350 meter when I purchased it. Then comes the actual real world use or lack there of. I have used my meter perhaps a total of five times over several years time. I went to use it recently and the batteries appeared dead so I open the compartment to have one of the battery contact plates fall out in pieces. It turns out that the plate broke right where it is bent to create spring tension to maintain battery contact. These contacts are not wear items and it's obvious the one that failed is defective. The meter has also stopped changing from the F, C or K scales - while sitting in the original box, unused.

I contacted Fluke who is now owned by Danaher Corp. I do not know if this has had an impact on product quality but I know the slow service response from Fluke was a huge disappointment. I explained the situation to them via e-mail indicating the need to be able to obtain the ten cent battery contact plate A.S.A.P. as I needed to use the meter for an existing job. A day later I received a response from a customer rep with a parts diagram. I confirmed the tiny part required and asked if they could place it in an envelope and mail it right out.Read more ›

My bbqing is now quite edible. Threw out half my thermometers when I got this one. --not because they were redundant --because they were uncalibrated pieces of crap. This is the one to rule them all. One fluke to find them. One to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them! Wait, think I got a little off topic =/

I have long looked for a decent thermocouple with two inputs and this was it. I purchased 5 different ones in just slightly over a weeks time and returned all besides this one. I figured if I was going to spend $200+ I might as well have the cream of the crop. The Fluke 52-2 works perfect. The temps update quickly and this thing is very rugged. I have dropped it once or twice and it didn't even leave a mark. I even knocked over a thermos with liquid nitrogen in it and it didn't bother it at all.

If you are looking for the best Fluke is the way to go.

Bought this a couple of months ago to monitor interpass temperatures in our aluminum welding shop. It's easy to use and provides quick and accurate readings. The outside is fairly rugged and would probably survive an accidental drop from a few feet. Perfect for a weld shop. We also bought a 80PK-3A probe but in hindsight probably don't need it - and it was pricey. The probe that comes with the unit is as basic as you can get but works fine.

The Fluke unit easily fits in one hand so it is easy to use in our shop. The rubber housing is a big plus as the equipment is moved around often and will see some bumps and scrapes. The digital screen is easy to read and temp readings are quick. I will be purchasing additional units soon as this model is well suited for a manufacturing environment.

yes. when it comes to excellent digital DMM-based instrument i recommend Fluke without reservation. Like the engineer who famously said in an internal marketing meeting - "if it works, it must be a Fluke". alas the owner of the company at the time didn't share the humor. the engineer was summarily fired.

i have never have a bad Fluke test equipment in my professional life. always works by Fluke.
