Product Description

Size: Dual Input with USB Recording

The Fluke 50 Series II digital thermocouple thermometer is used for applications requiring a broad range of temperatures, including furnaces, kilns, freezers, and other industrial applications. This thermometer measures temperatures in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin via a Type K, Type J, Type T, Type E, Type N, Type R, or Type S thermocouple probe. It comes with one or two Type K bead thermocouple probes with 40" cables that measure from -40 to +260 degrees C (-40 to +500 degrees F). It can store up to 500 points of data for analysis and monitoring, and it has an infrared communication port for exporting data to a computer for analysis. This thermometer provides the relative time of minimum, maximum, and average temperature measurements for monitoring. It has an offset function that allows the operator to compensate for thermocouple errors and increase accuracy. The thermometer body protects against splashing water and dust, and it comes in a holster that absorbs impact to help protect against damage if dropped. The thermometer enters sleep mode after 20 minutes of inactivity to help preserve battery life. It conforms to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards for compliance with regulations. The European Conformity (CE) marking indicates compliance with applicable European Union (EU) directives, and CSA mark indicates compliance with applicable Canadian Standards Association directives. This thermometer is suitable for measuring the temperature of equipment, systems, and processes in industrial and manufacturing environments.

Digital thermocouple thermometers measure the temperature of air, liquids, or surfaces. They may measure temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or both. Thermocouple thermometers are composed of two conductors of different metals, usually alloys of the same metal, which touch at the sensor end of the thermometer. The difference in conductivity between the two metal pieces produces a voltage flow between the sensor end and the open end of each conductor, which can be used to determine the temperature. Different alloys are used for different temperature ranges. Thermocouple thermometers are used in applications that require a large temperature range and do not require a high degree of accuracy. These thermometers are used in kilns, turbine exhaust systems, and furnaces.

Fluke Corporation manufactures electrical testing tools and software for industrial and commercial applications. The company, founded in 1948, is headquartered in Everett, WA.

Size: Dual Input with USB Recording
Fluke manufactures a wide variety of T&M gear - from the old standby meter to the newfangled infrared viewer. I've had this product in my HVAC kit for 4 years now and never once had a problem. I'd probably dock it 1/4 star if possible because of some really minor design issues, but that is more than made up for by its capabilities so it gets the full 5 stars as most likely nobody will be bothered by the issues I've seen.

The *ONLY* real negative is that the product is limited to the modern subminiature thermocouple connectors (some older t/c's have the big 1" wide connectors - no difference, but the real world has migrated to the submini connectors for years and VERY few meters use the "old" standard any more, yet I run across it about 1x / month - I keep adapters on hand for that rare occurance)

The highlights:

2 Thermocouple inputs - different types (i.e. K on T1 and T on T2 input)
(this means no more searching for 2 of the same thermocouple!)
Measurement flexibility - T1, T2, T1-T2 (useful for HVAC abilities)
Fast change from degrees C, F, or K at the push of a button
Infinitely flexible logging interval from 1 second to 100 hours
Infrared download into flukeview forms capability
Runs forever on 3 AA cells - I use mine ALOT and leave it forced on for logging - I get 6 months on a set of batteries which amounts to hundreds of hours use
Backlit display for dark equipment shelters
Secure strap capable to lock your meter to a pipe so it's there when you get back (or else someone cut the pipe)

All taken together this is probably one of Fluke's best thought ought tools. It is always in my toolkit along with a dozen thermocouples of various types and it accepts them all.

Rugged and extremely accurate (just like their multimeters). Used it in combination w the 80PK-27 probe to monitor and troubleshoot ultra-low temp freezers in my lab. Data logging function tremendously useful.

I had another one of these but it was ruined by a 3 month old set of duracell batteries. Duracell did pay for the replacement but I highly recommend using a lithium battery to avoid having this happen to you

Works great and saved the day numerous times on big concrete pours and also to check surface temps before painting.
