This was a great free read from Amazon! I bought the next 2, only 99 cents! I liked this book, it was a bit kitschy... not in quality of the writing, just the girl in Elf land with powers and transparent bad guys and jerk Elf Council etc. But our heroine is HILARIOUS with a smart mouth, I like that! And it made me laugh out loud in parts.

In this book a girl named Emma follows an evil fae into a new world after he captures her Father. She discovers an unknown history of her family: to wield a magic Flute and be it's Keeper. The Flute has been used through the years to control 5 magical beasts, whose essences were locked in the Flute years ago. Her family has also been known for their cleverness and Emma is very clever. She acts older than her age and unceasingly pursues the paths that lead her to her Father. I admire that she had a healthy outlook on a distrusting Fae population (all blessed with jelly bean colored hair!) Emma rescues Lev, a Slaugh (another kind of Fae and warrior-like) and discovers that his people are the ones who've taken her Father.

I had initially given this book more stars as a bump up from my initial rating. But I bumped it down since the the 2nd book is pretty awesome and worthy of 5 stars. My problems with this book were lack of conviction in the secondary characters. I loved Emma and Lev (and the Princess in later books) but the bad guys and Fae Council are uninspired villains.

The Flute Keeper is the definitely the best read I've experienced in years! Within pages, I was transported right into Emma's world. The magic, the excitement, all twisting and turning around Setzer's brilliant imagery hooked me immediately. If you are looking for a series to captivate, move, and thrill you, look no further. Not since Harry Potter have I awaited the release of a book with as much fervor and excitement. You will definitely find me waiting in line for book two!

This is a good series, I've read up to the Flute Keepers Voyage. Worth purchasing. It seems like it's aimed more at teens but I enjoyed the story line (I'm 24), and look forward to reading more of it in the future.

I absolutely LOVED this book from the very beginning! Setzer has created an amazingly beautiful world that one could only long to be a part of. Fortunately for us, we are able to jump right in to an enchanted realm full of exciting new creatures and races, beautiful imagery, magic, adventure, and subtle romance. A must read for teens to adults! I couldn't put this book down and it kept me wanting MORE!!!

Nice idea, but feels like it was written by a teenager. Predictable twists, reliance on over-used tropes, and the villains were prone to mistakes that make you wonder how they ever became so powerful to begin with.
