Flute Music at the Court of Frederick II of Prussia
King Frederick the Great of Prussia, as is well known, was a passionate flautist who not only composed for his beloved instrument, but also gathered around him some of the best German musicians and composers of his time. J.G. and C.H. Graun, F. Benda, C.P.E. Bach, and J.J. Quantz numbered themselves among his acquaintances, brought to the Prussian Court at Berlin or Potsdam. This fine recording presents music from Frederick's well-developed musical circle; presenting works of the aforementioned composers as well as some of the king's own works.
