There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I have read some of the other reviews that say it leaks when the power goes out and have not had that issue. The power has gone out many times since I got the unit, not a single drop of water got out, and it started right back up all on its own. The only reason I could see that issue developing is if it wasn't assembled correctly. All of the parts are very high quality, and so far have stood the test of time. In contrast, I have a fluval 406 on another tank for the same amount of time, and it just went out the other day with a bang, and rattle that can peel paint off the walls. I've decided to put an Eheim professional 3e on it to see how well they work, and also the fact that amazon had them on sale for a heck of a price. I would have gone with another G6, but they are very expensive, and I don't think I will ever be able to find a deal like I did when I got the one I have now. I must now go fix the cursed 406 as it seems to know when I mention it, and the rattle is back again. -_(\
Side note: If you want a really good LED light, I got the one on my tank off amazon for an insanely cheap price considering everything it does and how well it preforms. Its the Current-USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED 48-60 inch.
I was really on the fence about investing in such an expensive filter system, but to be honest I have about had it with all the filter mesh inserts and bypass problems with canister filters and finally after much thought decided to spend the money on a G3 or G6. Based on the flow question and size of the filters I decided to go with the G6, more money but a larger filter surface and more flow.
The setup was clean and easy. The system is well designed and in less than an hour I had it setup on my tank. There was a lot of discussion about priming problems, but I didn't have any problems. It takes several minutes for the system to fill and I suspect that maybe some people expected to prime and go. But I would recommend gently pressing the primer and giving the system time to fill. Once I filled the system I plugged the unit in and it went through a short initializing cycle. I had 100% flow immediately and no problems with micro bubbles shortly after startup. I have found that having conductivity, temperature and flow charts very useful for adjusting my temperature and salinity. I have also found that the G6 puts out considerable flow and feel that it is adequate and I probably would not want more for this size thank.
I had cleaned the tank, did a water change out, and light replacement right before I installed this filter and after a week the water remained very clear and there seems to be some improvement in algae control. I was slightly concerned that I have seen no reduction in water flow after a full week of operation which made me wonder if I needed to go to a finer pre-filter. I went ahead and turned the machine off and pulled the pre-filter to take a look at it and I was surprised to see that it had quite a lot of debris in it. So I will leave the filter in until it restricts flow and see how that goes, or whether I need to go finer.
I replaced the filter, pressed the primer once and plugged that machine back in and it returned to pumping just fine with no problems. So far I am very impressed with the unit. It is extremely quiet as many others have already mentioned and filter cleaning as advertised was a breeze.
