HydroTech™

The Fluval G Series is equipped with HydroTech, ™ an intelligent monitoring system. Though internal sensory modules, the HydroTech™ microprocessor stores and communicates real time filter performance, water parameters and filter cleaning intervals. Drive Pump

The Fluval G is powered by an advanced three component drive system, providing power, long term reliability with virtually zero noise and high performance. The powerful yet compact synchronized dual drive coil is controlled by one of two Fluval G microprocessors which continuously monitor and adjust the start speed, impeller direction, power usage and performance.

Filter Casing

The inner filter chamber is made from fiberglass re-enforced polymer, designed to withstand pressures of 15PSI, far outweighing the normal operational standards and resulting in a leak-proof and noise reducing casing.

Lever Canister ClampsAquaStop

Primer

With the Fluval G, there's never a need for manual siphoning. After set up on the aquarium and before plugging the unit in, just push the easy priming button all the way down 2-3 times in fast sequence. As water is drawn through the intake hosing, it fills the canister pushing air out of its way.

Telescopic Intake and Strainer / Rim attachment / Spray Nozzles or Spray Bars

Water is drawn through the multi-lamella intake strainer, designed to repel debris and resist the build-up of solids that would normally impede water flow. Additional intake strainers can be attached to extend the intake screen surface.

Low flow fixed!! I have had this filter for 6 years. I love it but from time to time after I do a deep clean by taking apart the filter/hoses/etc...After setting it back up I would get this error. Low Flow and state to refer to manufacture instructions. I would do everything and I mean everything to get it up and running again. Take it all apart clean everything again lubricate every seal put it all back together and it would finally work. Today I did it again. Another deep clean and before I started it (my whole family goes into hiding when I'm about to plug it in they know what is about to come)
I yell out to the house, "LET THE SWEARING BEGIN" and then plugged it in AND again I got the error. For 4 hours I fought this thing taking everything apart, cleaning, priming, and still no luck. You would think that the internet would have the answer but sadly after watching videos and reading all the message boards I was still no closer to an answer. Finally I remembered something that I had questioned when I was putting it back together. There are two output nozzles both fit in either the spray bars or intake nozzle. Simply switched the two around and low flow was fixed! Can't believe it was that easy. I am including the photos of how they should be in case anyone else is having this issue.

I bought this filter for my 75 gallon tank almost two years ago, and it has been running perfectly ever since. There are only two draw backs that I have found. The first is that each version filters less than they are stated to do. The G3 would be fine up to 60 gallons, not 80, and the G6 would be fine for up to 125, not 160. The other issue is that there are very few local stores that carry the media replacements. However, I have found its better to order them off of amazon as they are far cheaper than any other place I could find them. Also, the chemical cartridges are needlessly expensive, and pointless to replace unless you want a specialized one. I just buy a $17 bulk container of carbon, pop the bottom off the cartridge, pour out the old, and put in the new. The bulk container lasted nearly a year, which is much better than $20 a month for a new one. Also, if you maintain your tank well, as I have, you wont need to purchase more than two of the mechanical filters. You will need to replace the one it comes with after its been started and had a while to balance, then you're golden. Ive had the same one on it for almost the whole time I've owned the unit. I simply take it out, clean it under running water with the cleaning brush they provide, and it looks like new again. And before you say not possible, I've done that with a slightly overstocked tank. (6 black phantom tetras, 5 bleeding heart tetras, 4 platys, 3 high fin platys, 3 rainbow sharks, 2 algae eaters, 3 german rams, 2 upside down catfish, and a blue diamond discus) It handles it all wonderfully and my fish are very happy and active. I did try the fine mechanical pre filter once and determined it is much better suited for a marine aquarium. While it did make my tank extremely clean, it clogged very quickly, and could not be cleaned again. So if you're doing fresh water, stick with the regular filter cartridge. Monthly maintenance on the unit takes no more than maybe 10 minutes if you are taking your time. The unit is EXTREMELY quiet as well. If I turn off my air pump I have to look to make sure its still running. The display is very useful, as is the maintenance timer and warnings. It's made everything so much easier. The unit is very compact, and nice to look at so if you don't have a cabinet to put it in, its not an eye sore.

I have read some of the other reviews that say it leaks when the power goes out and have not had that issue. The power has gone out many times since I got the unit, not a single drop of water got out, and it started right back up all on its own. The only reason I could see that issue developing is if it wasn't assembled correctly. All of the parts are very high quality, and so far have stood the test of time. In contrast, I have a fluval 406 on another tank for the same amount of time, and it just went out the other day with a bang, and rattle that can peel paint off the walls. I've decided to put an Eheim professional 3e on it to see how well they work, and also the fact that amazon had them on sale for a heck of a price. I would have gone with another G6, but they are very expensive, and I don't think I will ever be able to find a deal like I did when I got the one I have now. I must now go fix the cursed 406 as it seems to know when I mention it, and the rattle is back again. -_(\

Side note: If you want a really good LED light, I got the one on my tank off amazon for an insanely cheap price considering everything it does and how well it preforms. Its the Current-USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED 48-60 inch.
