About the Author
Marty Love's parents provided him with an ideal place to grow up, a waterfront home on Puget Sound. He and his two brothers had many choices for entertaining themselves. They were surrounded by woods and water, and adventures were available any day, unless it was raining or they were at school. If they weren’t exploring the woods, they could swim (but the water was usually too cold), water-ski, or just row around in a boat. Marine life could be seen daily. Most common were different kinds of birds, and there were fish and clams. Occasionally more exciting creatures would venture into the Sound from the ocean—seals or even whales. One day as Marty was looking out at the water, a penguin floated by on a log. Years later he thought about that penguin and wondered how it got there. He wondered why it would make such a journey from the Southern Hemisphere and what kind of adventures it might have had. This book is the answer to those questions. Marty grew up, went to college (not necessarily in that order), graduated with a degree in Journalism, and proceeded to work various jobs that had nothing to do with his education. He moved to the Midwest, got married and became the father of six children. The research and writing for this book were done in his spare time over a period of about 18 years. Originally thought to be a story for his first kids, it was finished in time for the younger ones to read and enjoy it. He hopes others will also, including any future grandchildren.
