I have all these feelings floating around and I’m struggling to latch on to the one that will most accurately convey how beautiful I thought this book was. Heartwarming. Heartbreaking. Sexy. Flirty. Breathtaking. Even all strung together like that, I feel like those feelings only begin to paint the picture of the emotional journey this book took me on.
From the moment Jordan met Noah on a Vegas dance floor, their chemistry sparked and crackled and left my panties in a terrible state. That said, things didn’t play out exactly how I expected them to. Jordan wasn’t a typical heroine—and I loved her for that, even though I know some of the things about her would drive me crazy if she were a real person. That’s the thing—those things made her feel real to me. She wasn’t perfect, but she was awesome. She was a strong personality; a woman who knows who she is, who knows she’s not perfect, and loves herself anyway. I want to be best friends with Jordan, though I know we would for sure be the kind of best friends who drive each other nuts.
It’s hard to go wrong with a charismatic, confident fighter pilot. Ms. Cleeton did a fantastic job of painting the picture of Noah for me *wipes drool*. As a fan of men in uniform, I was pre-disposed to love Noah like crazy, and I did. He’s another imperfect character—but he’s solid and steady and, though his world gets rocked pretty fiercely, he doesn’t let it all go to s***. As far as book heroes go, Noah is…well…ace.
The secondary character relationships were also amazing. I loved Jordan’s interactions with Noah’s friends. I loved them, and cannot wait to spend more time with them over the course of this series. The friendships were woven beautifully into the romance, adding so much heart and giving the story a richness that hit me right in my reader sweet-spots.
The whole thing felt so real to me. I could imagine this story playing out in real life. There were adorable moments that made me giggle, moments that broke my heart (shattered it, really), and so many moments that took my breath away. If I have a complaint, it’s that I want more. I want to know what happened...after. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye yet, and am hoping (and looking forward) to getting updates on Jordan and Noah as the series goes on.
Fly With Me was a fantastic start to this new series and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here!
Fighter pilot hero?!? Couldn't get my hands on this book fast enough and yet even with all the hot military catnip it took me a while to get into this book. First, I have a really hard time with insta lust romances where the hero and heroine lay eyes on each other and are in bed in the blink of an eye. And that's how this book opened lots of boinking and suddenly omg I have to have you so bad I will turn my life upside down to be with you. I'm not saying this can't happen and after all this is romance but please show me instead of tell me that these two somehow hit it off in more ways than one. Second, I just never warmed up to the heroine. She was a bombshell, blond, big boobs, successful, secure in her sexuality, down for anything and super confident. She almost came across as a man's idea of what a perfect woman should be. Do these women exist in real life? If they do more power to them but in my fiction I'd like some flaws to make this person relatable in some way. Noah was also a little too close to perfect. The heroine remarks on his perfection throughout the story. No drama at all with either of them, they are both pretty confident, beautiful, perfect people so at first the conflict rested entirely on the long distance aspect of their relationship and then towards the end the author inserts an event which changes everything but just not really in this book. The event in question affects everyone close to Noah and Jordan but mostly secondary characters that won't get their story until the last book in the series. I found this sort of weird. It seems to me that the set up should have been for the second book but the hero of the second book barely exists in this one except as a background character. I felt this event detracted from the story even as it provides a catalyst for the main characters to finally make the hard choices, because I immediately became more interested in these secondary characters and found them infinitely more interesting, realistic and relatable than Noah and Jordan.
In spite of all the quibbles I had I enjoyed the book. I liked the authors voice and will probably read the second book in the series but I can tell you I will most definitely read the third one since it was set up so brilliantly here just sadly to the detriment of this story. Quick read, enjoyable and steamy. Recommended.
