Bob Hoover's story is one of perseverance and determination that will appeal to anyone. He began by taking a few flying lessons and discovered to his great disappointment that he was prone to airsickness. He overcome this by flying those maneuvers that made him feel the worst, until he was finally able to conquer it. He wanted to become a fighter pilot, and was the right age to get involved in the build up to WW2. His primary military flight instructor was so impressed with his flying ability that Hoover was soon teaching the instructors. The story of his flying accomplishments after that is legendary. Fighter pilot, test pilot for North American Aviation, and air show performer extraordinaire, he dazzled millions with his exhibitions of precision flying. I personally witnessed his extraordinary skill as a child in the mid-sixties when my Dad took us to the Reading, PA airshows.
I heartily recommend this film to everyone, and is an absolute must-see for aviation buffs. Bob Hoover's modest, easy going nature is refreshing to see in this age of "look at me" attitudes that prevail in our society.
