I knew this was a very old used book that I had when I was a kid as a paper back in the 60s. It was in very good condition given how old it was and that’s how it was described.

Very exciting and interesting UFO book about cases back in the middle 1960's. Frank Edwards was a very good and detailed author about the subject of UFO'S. In this book, he goes into details about selected UFO events across the world when UFO's were buzzing the skies in that time period. This was his last book before his untimely death in 1967.

I hand been looking for this book for the longest time. It's a good read, and is a solid portrayal of the concerns of our society in the 1960's over unidentified flying objects and aliens.
I wanted the book for another purpose altogether - my father, an amateur photographer, and his brother devised a plot to create a false UFO sighting. That sighting is documented in this book in detail. As this book documents the FBI reviewed my uncle's 'sighting' in detail and confirmed it as a documented sighting. I grew up hearing the details of how my father and uncle created this fraud and know the other half of the story. Makes me wonder about all the other alleged sightings. . . .

A snapshot in time just as Hynek began to flip but before the Condon Committee Report was finished. Most of this book is devoted to exposing Project Blue Book. Edwards drags the USAF through the mud, ad nauseum. This kind of dusty rhetoric is a snore for casual students of Ufology.
I go through these old books hoping to find some long-forgotten case reports. To be sure, there are a couple of good cases sprinkled in there. However, if you choose to read only one, Edwards previous book (Serious Business) is far and away the better option.

Frank Edwards died in controversial circumstances just before this book's release in 1967. It is a good enough summary of reported UFO sightings of 1966-67, including the famous Michigan events and J. Allen Hynek's "preposterous explanation" of swamp gas. The book gets quite repetitive however. Just one sighting after the other, but with some interesting stuff such as the story behind the UFO photo taken over a lake by Vincent Perna and the report on the Tully "saucer nests" in Australia. Edwards bluntly rejects the report of a UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill, stating that "it is surprisingly easy to fake a story for retelling under hypnotic trance." He quotes James McDonald's speech on UFOs and his visit to Wright-Patterson AFB, from Oct 1966, and also McDonald's speech from April 1967 in which he claimed UFOs constituted "a serious problem of first world importance." Edwards also gives details of AFR 80-17, the replacement of AFR 200-2, and its ramifications, such as that radar sightings of UFOs were henceforth to be automatically classified and not to be discussed or revealed to the public. Not a bad book, and it's cheap enough, so I would say it is worth getting.
