Last week, after a Leg Day that left me walking gingerly for a couple days after, I decided to finally order one of these dealies. Not one to start in the shallow end of ANY pool, I decided on this Medieval-looking contraption. It arrived yesterday.
After 2 uses, I feel LIGHTYEARS better. Leg Day today was the same as last week, but I took the extra time afterward to roll EVERYthing out...and everything feels much better than it did last week!
I'm already stoked about this purchase. The quality is really good, it feels like a solid product, and it already seems to be beneficial. Will be buying one for my Workout Bud, for SURE. :D
Muscle rollers aren’t for everyone and need to be used correctly. They are to massage, stretch and reduce tightens in the muscles. For some it’s painful, while for others it’s a great relief. So if possible try one, before you buy one. So far both my GF and I like it. I will update the review later on if the roller degrades in any way. Hope this helps.
I find the finger tips are definitely most useful for rolling out quads. The flatter "p 4 alm" area is good for lower back.
It measures 13 inches wide. The small form factor isn't an issue for me. My shoulders are 18 inches wide. It's plenty for rolling the main part of my back. I usually use a small lacrosse ball and/or a chew toy type ball with spikes on it for rolling any particular spots on my back, or feet, and front calves.
I can dig my nails into it and not damage the material. It's some kind of dense foam with like a latex material wrapping it, is my guess. Could be a different material honestly. The core is simply hard plastic. All in all pretty sturdy.
The color is ok. I think it's not quite as neon as my iPhone camera makes it look. I bought the orange one because it matches my balls, lol. The ones I mentioned.
I know there are similar rollers. Obviously Prime was a big factor in me choosing this one. Form factor, aesthetics and the finger/palm areas were taken into consideration as well. For the $20-25 I spent, it's definitely been convenient to have a roller at home vs doing it at the gym.
The overall quality and durability is excellent, I would give it a 10/10 for quality. The foam is dense enough to provide enough pressure to hit those deep tissue trigger points while also being comfortable to use. Don't get me wrong though, it still hurts (in a good way)! It is also durable enough that it has not worn down at all after daily use for quite some time. It is a bit on the heavier side due to the density of the foam, so it might be a little bit of a hassle to carry around daily.
The size is exactly as described. For someone of my build, 5' 10" and 215lbs, it works almost 100% of the time for the uses I need. The only parts of my body that are really tough to actually hit well is the hamstrings. I cannot really put enough pressure on it to hit the trigger points without help, but I would classify that as a human factor rather than the product itself. I carry around a lacrosse ball as well to help hit points you cannot hit with this roller, aka the rear delts, pecs, and the Piriformis.
Definitely recommended to anyone interested in getting into foam rolling or for those that already partake but are looking for a new product to use. You will not regret the purchase!
