BEST INTERFACE ON THE MARKET!

BEST INTERFACE ON THE MARKET!
This was one of the best things I have bought for my personal home recording studio! The sound quality is by far the best I've had out of many other interfaces. It's very sharp looking and fits anywhere within the workstation. You have both a line in and mic channel, and one cool feature that this unit has is a switch for direct sound on/off. The volume knob allows for a perfect in ear mix of music and sound while recording with headphones. the sound card is superb and can over ride your pc sound card for a much better sound quality and 0 latency when done properly.Plug and play is as easy as it sounds! I use it with SONAR X3 Producer and it picked it up right after driver install. This is a must for any recording studio and is small enough to pack up to go record a local band in the comfort of their own space! Focusrite has been making quality audio products for years. When I was looking to add a simple solutions to my Mac for recording from high quality XLR mic's that needed phantom power, I started looking for a Focusrite setup. I din't need a full blow professional solution that would cost a fortune, but I wanted something I could trust to produce high quality audio recordings. the Scarlett Solo series was at the top of my list, and I could not be happier.

The build quality on the Solo is very nice. A re aluminum housing with a dark grey faceplate for the dial snd inputs. The volume knob doesn't offer much resistance, but it is smooth across the range of volumes.

The Scarlett Solo's are USB powered with makes them a good solution for portable use as well as a cleaner desktop setup.
The XLR input produces consistent phantom power and great sound quality. I mainly us it for recording my podcasts, but it would be a great solution for home studio music production as well. I have not used the instrument line in, but I have no reason to expect it would not work extremely well based on the rest of my experience with tis unit.

The Direct Monitor functions work perfectly as well. This is where you can have your recording from the mic set to play live through the monitors you are wearing during recording. I can hear no perceptible lag or delay from what I am speaking to what I hear in my headphones.

The Scarlet Solo is definitely a no-friills, simple solution without a lot of bells and whistles. What is lack in features, it makes up for in ease of setup and use, and great sound quality.

One other benefit of using this as your PC's sound interface, is the ability to hook up studio monitors or other speakers that require an RCA connection. You can plug the right/left RCA connectors directly to the back of the Scarlet Solo without the need for an audio adapter.

Over a year in, I still love my Solo and would gladly replace it with another Focusrite unit should the need ever arise!

This is a five-star device for mic preamplification and USB connectivity. The device is dead quiet including on the computer side of the USB connection, where two distinct channels can be brought into your DAW, and the device has all the knobs you need for preamping any mic properly. I'm tempted to take away a fraction of a star, but I won't, because this device did not work properly when I first set it up, until I reduced the bitrate on my computer (set by default for some reason to 96000), but the specs for this unit state it supports 96k - still I admit I spent no further time troubleshooting or diagnosing and don't really know if it was my computer or the little red box complaining about the 96k. As soon as I brought it down to 48, which is fine for me, the box worked perfectly. I didn't toggle back and forth to try 96 again, but I would describe what it had previously sounded like was everything you were trying to record (my voice for example) sounded like it was in very slow-motion! 96k may indeed work; I'm only on a Macbook Air and don't need 96k recordings, so I did not pursue further. The Scarlett Solo version I got has two ins and two outs, and two USB outs. It may also go the other direction on USB, so you can monitor the computer through the Scarlett headphone jack, but this is the longest path to latency, if you will, and I did not try it. It's difficult sometimes, I think, to derive from the product descriptions of all of these Scarlett products how many tracks go across the USB; in my little box, it's only two. This generally is a professional-quality and sturdy box that does what it claims.

I was looking to replace my non-working M-Audio Mobile Pre. It could be noisy (crackles and static) plus it was plastic and felt rather unsubstantial. Never really liked it or the version of Pro Tools that came with it. The website had virtually no information on the unit. When I switched my recording set up to Logic Pro X it eventually died. I am truly a lone recorder but I wanted a unit that was compact, priced right and had great support. Focusrite has many different versions of audio interfaces, great website and really outstanding suite of audio add-ins. You can even get a version of Ableton Live for no additional cost. I purchased the Scarlett Solo. Just holding the unit it feels rather substantial and well constructed. It has these halo rings around the input controls that turn green when there is a good signal and turn red when overloaded. Nice change for this old analog VU meter brain. Has phantom power for mics that need it. The add ins suite was easy to install and setup in Logic Pro X. Love the Compressor and the Reverb AU. Since I am making mostly demos it does the job! I would purchase another Focusrite product without question. High Quality products!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome interface for starters and simple songs.

Great interface, good for starters and people who don't want to spend a lot of money. The mic is pretty good (there are better ones, but this is pretty solid for starters). The headphones quality is really awesome, but they do hurt a bit after 1-2 hours work.
This is a really neat package. The software is a bit hard to understand. And the installation process is even harder to understand (how to activate the licenses etc.). But over all i am satisfied after 2-3h of installation and frustration i understood and now i love the scarlet solo. There are far better ones out there and would I recommend you to buy a 2i2 or a 2i4 or something with a lot more input jacks, because 2 inputs no midi input jack is not enough for a so claimed home studio. Other than that the scarlet solo is easy to handle, very small, red (yes it's red) and fast to understand. Cubase Le AI might be hard to handle but for simple recording and a little bit of editing it's satisfying enough. But if you want to go further then buying the full version or another DAW is recommended.
Hope you've a good time with it, because i surely am. And i love this little guys Power.
