Editorial Reviews

"I can’t recommend A. Meredith Walters' books enough...You don’t leave her books behind after the story has ended. These are the kinds of books you carry with you." (In The Best Worlds)

"There is no question that A. Meredith Walters is one of my favorite authors. She always writes her stories so that we can relate to the characters, they jump out of the books and into our hearts each and every time. Her books have deep meaning to them but are also sweet and sassy with some sexy to steam up the pages." (Book Addict Mumma Book Blog)

"BRILLIANT, AMAZING, GUT-WRENCHING!" (Shh Mom's Reading Book Blog)

Follow Me Back is the highly awaited second book in the Twisted Love series by A. Meredith Walters. You must read the first book, Lead Me Not, before this one. In this installment Walters delivered the intense conclusion to Aubrey and Maxx’s story. Every word of this book was intricately woven together to create a compelling and emotional reading experience that took my breath away. No part of Aubrey and Maxx’s tumultuous journey was easy to read. They were real and they are flawed, but that made their love and the bond they shared even more powerful. They stole my heart from the very beginning and never let go.

The book started with Maxx in rehab and Aubrey struggling to get back on track in the wake of their destructive relationship. She vowed to erase Maxx from her thoughts and her life for good. The problem was that the heart wants what it wants, and Aubrey’s heart wanted Maxx. I was immensely proud of her for the harnessing the strength it took to put herself first. Even though she yearned for Maxx, she understood that when he using drugs he was a toxic presence in her life. My heart ached watching them be apart and suffer the way they were, but they both needed the time to heal and make important decisions about their future.

Just when I thought Aubrey’s pain was breaking my heart, along would come a chapter from Maxx and he would shatter it further. His loneliness and self-doubt were palpable. Not only had he lost Aubrey, but his brother wasn’t speaking to him. I was impressed with his commitment to win Aubrey back and make things right with his brother, but I was worried about him. Addiction is serious business and as much as I wanted to believe that he was going to overcome it, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical that he could do it on his own.

“Trust. Faith. Belief. Every relationship is built on them. Without these three words, everything around you would crumble.”

Let the book hangover begin! Oh how I have been waiting to get my hands on this book! Follow Me Back is one those books that makes a lasting impression. It is one of the stories that has become a part of me, and that will be staying with me for quite a while.

Follow Me Back picks up right where Lead Me Not left off. Aubrey is lost. She is devastated. Aubrey’s relationship with Maxx not only ended up leaving her heartbroken, but it may have cost her, her college career. All she can do now, is try to pick up the pieces and deal with the consequences. She has no choice but to put herself first for once and try to move on. And just as fate would have it, once Aubrey is finally getting a handle on things, Maxx ones again turns her life upside down.

“I am such an idiot. I want the one thing that can hurt me the most. I can’t help it. You’re in my blood, Maxx. You’re everywhere. In everything. I can’t escape you. You’ve destroyed me. But I want you to put me back together. Can you do that? Can you make everything right again?”

Maxx..his addiction almost destroyed everything. He not only almost lost his life, but Aubrey and Landon too. Now he’s forced to live with the consequences of his decisions. The first step, admitting he needs help and try to kick his addiction. He’s hit rock-bottom and vows that he wants to change. He wants to be the man that Aubrey deserves to have in her life. He knows that he’s got a lot to make up for and that it won’t be easy, but he’s determined to make things right.

“Do you feel that? That’s where you are. That’s where you will always be.

I loved the first book in this series. Now that I finally have been able to read this one, I'm left a little disappointed. Here I'm going to contradict many of my other reviews because I wish this one wasn't quite so realistic. I realize that drug addiction is a series issue that never goes away and is especially hard to deal with right after rehab. But since I'm reading a romance novel, I wanted more romance and less anger and hostility and just really heavy feelings especially from Aubrey. Usually I beg for more realism but with Maxx and Aubrey I just wanted them to kiss and hug and makeup already. It seems like it took to like 60% before they were back together again. Then finally they're together and we get the typical relationship issues which leads to the ending of the book happening and we get to witness very little of their HEA.

That said, I'm really glad I finally got to read about Maxx and Aubrey finding their happiness together and A. Meredith Walter's is still one of my favorite authors and I will always buy whatever she writes.

Follow me Back is the sequel to Lead Me Not and just like its predecessor, the story drew me in from the first page and would let go. I am always intrigued by the stories that show real human flaws. Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows so it's refreshing to read a book that isn't as well.

This story is about struggle. The struggle to make yourself a better person. The struggle to trust in what your heart wants instead of what your brain is telling you. And ultimately the struggle to believe in yourself.
