On a quest to redeem his family name and lands, Sir Adrian Bedford must marry without delay. But what woman he'd accept would wed an impoverished former nobleman who insists on an unusual stricture in their marriage contract? Joanna, a woman striving to succeed in a man's world.
When irresistible attraction makes their marriage of convenience inconvenient, will his dangerous secrets keep them from following their hearts?
There was a pretty dramatic start to this book. There is intrigue and secrets and villains of course. Many self-serving enemies; for both of them. One of Joanna's enemies being her brother William, who is working against her trying to steal what their father left her. A woman being a trades person was bad enough but being left the business when their was a living male heir was even worse. Never mind that she had the skill and dedication to make the business run successfully. She learned her skill at her father's knee while William had no interest in it at all. Until...their father died and he wanted to be in control and gain all the profit. He needs to gain all the profits; there is a deeper reason for that but that's his secret. He'll do just about anything to win. Adrian has too many secrets to even name. Several of them could even get him killed; also endangering those around him.
This was a well written story that keeps the reader engaged. It also had quite a few twists and turns too. They had some pretty clever enemies. Slowly some of Adrian's secrets are revealed one by one but not because he shared them with his wife. Things began to happen that exposed them, one by one. But there is still one major secret that threatens his marriage because he is adamant about keeping it.
Oh, yes there is consensual sex between Adrian and Joanna as a married couple, in some detail.
What's not to like about that cover on the book?
"I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review".
Adrian🐺 watched his grandmother burned🔥 to death as a witch in 1442. Her last words were, "follow your heart" , aimed at him. He has inherited the second sight but he will never tell anyone.
Sir Adrian🐺🍆🌋, a young man now, wants his family holdings back, but in order to do that, he must play paramour to the 55 year old Lady Anne👵, who lives there now. She is old, unwashed, and smells disgusting, but he steels himself to the task. EEEEW!
He meets the beautiful woman Glazenwright, or stained glass painter, Joanna💃💋, as he is leaving Lady Anne's, and instantly falls in love💕.
The book follows their crazy relationship or lack of one, and their marriage👰 of convenience. Both characters have brothers that have criminal problems.
Great book! The on/off relationship between Adrian🐺🍆🌋 and Joanna💃💋 may be Too angst ridden for some readers.
This definitely an adult romance with violent criminal elements.
Joanna and Adrians relationship developments was suttal, yet one you could see lasting a lifetime. The Visions that Adrian has would, not would be connected to anyone being from witch era, at this day and time his twin would be the one I would think evil of. it totally surprised me with the twist and turns of the characters nothing very harsh nor vulgar.
Without giving to much away, the humorous side of lovemaking during this time period was written very well. Just another twist in the authors writing.
Surprised yet again with his dogs names Beowulf and Chaucer, kind of a foreshadowing of what life for Adrian has been from his viewpoint. The protectiveness he has for Joanna is also well written, yet his desire to have his family legacy restored to them makes you keep reading to see what happens. This book was given to me for an honest review. Thank you so much for a refreshing change.
