*I totally understand where you are coming from! I was diagnosed with FM two years ago, after many years of suffering for no known reason. I don't agree with the author that poor eating gave me the disease, but I do believe that proper nutrition can aid in the control of the "syndrome". The reason being, is because our body was created with it's own way of healing itself in most instances. The proper nutrients in foods and supplements, along with ceasing to put toxins into our body, allow our body to heal itself, and fight against many diseases. Our cells continually rebuild themselves (as this book explains) and over time, they rebuild healthier or sicker versions of themselves based on what we put into our bodies. This book is FILLED with great information before the recipes are even introduced, that I believe everyone should know...especially FM sufferers. Not just eat this, and don't eat this, but WHY! Very detailed and helpful information that makes the purchase worth it, even if you don't use the recipes.
On the recipes themselves, I agree with your review on how unrealistic they are for many FM sufferers. When I was diagnosed, I was unable by dinner time, to even stand up and make a meal for my family, let alone cook from scratch. If we couldn't call it in, or just stick it in the oven, we didn't eat. That brings me to the cost part...calling out for takeout, even if just a trip to McDonalds, eating off the dollar menu, is VERY expensive! Way more expensive than buying fresh and sometimes organic food. Frozen pre-cooked or packaged foods are expensive. I didn't realize this, until I actually threw out the excuse, and started buying fresh fruits and veggies. I wanted so badly to eat healthy, but didn't have the energy to do so. At my worst, I couldn't even walk to my mailbox without severe pain, dizzyness, or fatigue. I got tired of FM controlling my life though, and decided I had to start somewhere. That's my suggestion for you, and all others who are where I once was. Start SOMEWHERE! Apples are not very expensive, and you can eat them with no preporation. Start having an apple for breakfast, and baby carrots for snacks. Get rid of all the sugary foods in the house that are so easy to grab and eat, and tempt us so badly. Reach for ready to eat fruits and vegetables instead.
EVERY PERSON NEEDS TO SUPPLEMENT! Even if you ate all organic raw foods, you still wouldn't get enough nutrients because our foods aren't grown in nutrient rich soils anymore. If you have the money, go for Shaklee's Vitalizer and Vivix. If you don't, start with One A Day Women's daily multivitamin, along with a b vitamin complex and omega 3,6, and 9 complex. I also HIGHLY recommend a probiotic. Probiotic Pearl is my favorite..available right here on Amazon. It's in the shape of a sphere, not an oval. Just these few changes will over time, change your health and life, and you will start having the energy to make meals from scratch, and exercise. I PROMISE! Then, cut out soda pop, and caffiene. ALL CAFFIENE. It stops the body from absorbing many nutrients, and dehydrates you. DO NOT REPLACE SUGAR WITH ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS, they are actually worse for you than sugar itself. Instead, go for Stevia, or no sweetener at all, preferably. Drink half your body weight in water each day, and you will have more energy, less digestive issues, your skin will look better, and you will LOSE WEIGHT! I am a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT person than I was 2 years ago, and I finallly have my life back! I now have a part time job for the first time in 10 years, and I am so happy! We don't have to let FM control us, we can learn to control it!
