The FLGTW is a practical, not pretentious, guide for those who consume rather than collect. Building on their deep research and industry-leading efforts to guide professionals and the rest of us through flavors and their successful combinations, Karen and Andrew go deeper into to the food and wine pairings they first catalogued in "What To Drink With What You Eat," a reference I have used regularly since it was first published. The right combinations can magically transform a meal from the common to the exceptional, and this reference helps us to understand what works, to avoid mistakes, and to enjoy meals even more as a result. "The Food Lover's Guide to Wine" doesn't simplify or "dumb-down," it clarifies and explains. This wonderful book will join "The Flavor Bible" in professional and domestic kitchens for generations.

Last spring I was having a dinner party with a complicated menu and I remember saying to my husband that some people would love a personal chef- me I would opt for a personal sommelier.
Karen Page and Andrew Dorenberg have given me that and much much more. The book is brilliant, a word used to often but not by me. It is a journey from the first page to last.
My favorite parts are when the sommelier's are pairing wine with meals and when they are giving different options of wines . The book also has a interesting history of wines in America and a great list of wines under 15 dollars. Food Lovers Guide is going to be a great Christmas gift and I plan to pair every book with a wine that suits my friend's favorite foods.

I bought this book for my fiancee', who is a very talented chef (yes I am bragging). He absolutely LOVES the references and descriptive advice given by these wonderful authors regarding beverage paring with each type of food imaginable. The book breaks down into very easy chapters that make it great when you are searching for specific advice.

The authors are easily superstars in the gourmet food and wine scene, having now contributed so many salient volumes on each topic. When this volume came out, honestly I wasn't sure the why or the what of it. Seemed like What To Drink With What to Eat needless followup, but that opinion was certainly premature and off-base.

This volume approaches the vital topic of "Wine Guide for Food Lovers" from a completely different slant than their previous books. It approaches it from a thorough and meaningful lens of equipping the food lover to choose wine which will enhance dining.

Why these two authors to do such a work? They answer: what we love most about wine is its ability to make food taste even better! Food first, then wine. And this reviewer says, Amen!

There is so much to master about wine, given its rising popularity now with many more regions producing and more production in regions. It's more about learning to know your palate for wine with food and then exploring and enriching the possibilities here.

The book neatly divides into three sections: Section One is about the first 97 pages and is my standout and go-to section where there is considerable talk about how one can enhance and develop the wine & food marriage. Several of the articles which grabbed me were the Choosing a Wine by Flavors one likes, and "If you now like this wine, try this in addition." They cover a wide girth and breath of the topic so the food lover like the authors looking to enhance the dining experience with vino will be enthralled, inspired and enlightened by these array.

Intermixed with all this good stuff is Sommeliers and other wine folks who offer their experience and advice for the rest of us.

This gorgeously illustrated book is a must for anyone who loves good food and wine. You'll learn the secrets of sommeliers, the essentials of serving and enjoying wine, and the perfect complement for every course, as well as such esoterica as what disguises all those Beaujolais Crus. Never again will I confuse Muscadet, dry, crisp and delicious with sea food, with sweet Muscat--a wine that's tasty with chocolate: dreadful with oysters. But don't just buy one volume. You'll want a copy of this book for every wine lover or potential wine lover on your holiday list.

I usually have my wine with a movie. This has inspired me to start using my wine to compliment the food I serve. It also inspired me to explore how different temperatures bring out different flavors in the wine. My husband and I have been making our own wines for the past year and wanted to know about the different styles and flavors to know what we would like to try next. This book is helpful for that and easy to read. A wonderful reference for people who enjoy wine or for people who want to!

I got her the Flavor Bible (same author - Karen Page) several years ago for Christmas. I knew she uses it regularly so when this new book came out I decided to get it. My neighbor absolultely loves it (a die hard Food Channel watcher). I recommend Karen Page books for anyone not necessarily a foodie - but shopping for one - they'll love it!
