The cover of this book is a tip-off to what is to come inside. When was the last time you saw canapes on bread cut into circles topped with cream cheese and a cucumber cut into a start shape? When Ronald Regan was president! If you are looking for more ideas like what you see on the cover, then the book will not disappoint. If you are looking for some tips for presenting food in the 21st century, keep looking.

While the book is copyrighted 2010, the photos, styling and food is a blast from the past making it outdated for a table 10% of the way through the new millennium. The quality of the photos remind me of some of the old Sunset cookbooks that I purged from my collection in Y2K - Way over color-corrected, very staged and far too fussy for the rustic elegance that graces tables today. I have hundreds of food-related books and this is the first I have been so disappointed with that I am returning it.

I bought the book because the other reviews were all so good. I am writing this review so that the next person who considers purchasing the book will have another person's opinion to consider.

If you are looking for a book on food presentation from the 1980's , that's your book.
Presentations are outdated and pictures are very low quality.
No new ideas and uninteresting.
Sad to have spent money on it

If you entertain at all, or if you wish you could, or if you just want to elevate everyday family meals and snacks to a more elegant level, this is a must-buy book. It is full of wonderfully simple as well as more complex examples of plating dishes, setting tables, arranging buffets, and creative garnishing. The photographs are superb and clearly display Michelle's use of many everyday basic items we all have in our homes. A few examples are stacking pre-sliced mini cocktail breads in a spiral (page 58), using martini or on-the-rocks glasses of varying height for serving basic condiments such as pickles and olives (page 55 - and who doesn't have an odd assortment of this kind of glassware!), even artistically presenting the humble grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup (page 46).

In addition, the author has included loads of easy non-recipes from cocktails and appetizers through desserts. This book is a steal at this price. I promise you'll get dozens of ideas that can be utilized for years to come.

Food Presentation Tips and Inspiration will now be my go-to holiday, bridal shower, and housewarming gift!

This book is even better than Michelle's "Curb Appeal" book. Fabulous photographs, organized beautifully, and a "must" for any coffee table or cook's kitchen. Well-written, entertaining, and practical. What a terrific publication!

I got this book as a gift and honestly didn't think I'd ever use it. I put it aside imaging pages of some 80's - esque platters of prosciutto wrapped cucumbers with glittery tooth-picks. I happened to be hosting a get together where the person that gave me the book was invited, so not to seem unappreciative I decided to open the book and try to use it for something, so I could say how awesomely helpful and creative the book was. After actually opening the book I was surprised at how many suggestions I actually found cute, easy, and contemporary. I ended up using a bunch of the suggestions for plating, sauces and set-up and was really happy with how nice my table and food looked :). A surprisingly great book for the modern table/party!!
