I like to cook and I like trucks. So I should be a natural for food truck ownership, right? Not so fast. As Andrew Moorehouse points out, getting an urge to own and operate a food truck is only the beginning. Moorehouse sets out a checklist of thoughts and items to consider before making the food truck plunge, such as the start up budget, return on investment, sales experience, and marketing skills. Where will you find your customer base? How many employees will you need? How can you find the best locations? The author makes points that many folks considering starting a food truck business may not have thought about. For example, if your truck is going to feature breakfast, the menu should be quick and simple (which doesn't mean plain or ordinary, but fast) because people are often running late for work and are in a hurry. Moorehouse talks about the significant planning that will be required to begin a successful food truck, and he discusses basic skills needed, such as the ability to recognize quality food and good food combinations, and the ability to correctly price your food. He also outlines the hurdles that may be placed in your way, such as obtaining city permits. This is an invaluable resource, and Moorehouse's knowledge and enthusiasm shine through on every page. Don't consider starting a food truck business without reading this book. Or, if you are a fan of The Great Food Truck Race (and who isn't?), just read this book for fun.

But that seemed like such a far-fetched idea that I never really gave it much thought until I started seeing food trucks around. I've read a few books along with this one and have pieced together information that can get me started. This book seems to cover all the relevant information found through my research. One thing I found extremely helpful in this book is the funding section where it explains a way to get startup capital through crowdsourcing. I had never heard about this concept before. This section really got me motivated and gave me hope that I can really make this happen.

Pretty basic info. Not bad just was expecting a little more in depth industry specifics. I did not need the chapters on how to interview employees and getting on facebook and twitter. Most of this was just too basic and vague. Chapters were short and full of generalities such as - you can buy a used truck and customize it for your needs, or buy a new truck and get started sooner. Every other sentence ended with an exclamation mark and read almost like a pep rally to get you excited about the idea... Which l found a little over the top. Actual excerpt about choosing a location - 'You may have even driven around and found some areas you think are perfect! But not so fast! The competition is probably already aware of that same location too!' Did have some useful info and references but definitely not your only resource for getting into this business.

This book is ok if you have never though about this in anyway or have no clue about the world of work or business or even have any common sense.

Everything in this book can be found online for free with just a hour of good research, I bought for hints and tips to help me make a better and more comprehensive business plan. After reading it which only took 2 hours (and I am a slow reader), i genuinly felt like emailing the writer to ask him if he wants me to help him because he clearly does not understand much about this topic and what is expressed in the book is far to simple to be of any use.

i would not recommend this book, save your money and do your own more comprehensive research.
