Product Description

Size: 250

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a stable form of the non-essential amino acid L-Cysteine.  It is a sulfur-containing amino acid that acts as a stabilizer for the formation of protein structures, and is also necessary for the formation of Glutathione.  Molybdenum and Selenium are essential trace minerals that facilitate the production of several important enzymes.*

To test this supplement I conducted an experiment on myself. Over the course of a month I had my girlfriend lay out my pills and write down which days included NAC and which days did not. I did not look at my pills when I took them and did not know which days I was taking NAC. I then recorded my anxiety and stress levels each day. At the end of the month there was a noticeable difference in my ratings of anxiety between days that I did and did not take NAC.

I therefore believe that, for me personally, this supplement appears to be effective. JUST MAKE SURE TO NOT TAKE IT AT LEAST 2 DAYS A WEEK! The reasoning behind this is that NAC increases your body's glutathione levels. But if your levels are chronically elevated, your body may begin to decrease glutathione levels in order to keep them at a consistent level (this is called homeostasis). Therefore (as with all antioxidant supplements) you want to stop taking it at least 2 days a week so your body does not decrease glutathione production.

If you're experiencing depression or anxiety and you've tried other things unsuccessfully, try this together with 5-HTP (also available on amazon; I use the Doctor's Best brand). These together turned my years of depression off like a switch was flipped. No medication or herbal products ever gave me relief. I've been using it for over a year without any return of symptoms. This works!

A friend with depression told me NAC worked wonders for her depression, so initially I ordered some thinking it may be a good mood elevator. It sad in my cabinet, and I'd take it inconsistently with no real noticeable effects.

Flash forward a couple months, I hear about glutathione as an amazing anti aging supplement from my dermatologist (glutathione is an essential part of every cell in the human body, it's considered the "ultimate antioxidant": [...] and upon doing research on the best way to encourage glutathione...my friend NAC kept popping up again. Time to take this stuff properly (I take 3 a day) and consistently.

Bare in mind, I have tried virtually every vitamin, herb, amino acid, you name it. After a brush with health problems last year, I have become a bit of a wellness junkie: and from adding martial arts, acupuncture, vitamins, research, juicing, and all that good stuff, I can tell you no supplement or food, absolutely NOTHING has improved my overall health more than NAC. I truly feel younger, I get deeper sleep, I get out of bed after 7-8 hours feeling rested (I used to need about 9-10). I maintain a healthy weight more easily, my skin is better, I feel happier, I no longer get sick, I feel more clear-headed. It has truly made an impact in my life similar to adding in a workout routine really, it's absolutely incredible. I suspect that increased glutathione was a key part of feeling much better. My thyroid is also functioning better according to lab tests, and I can feel it as well.

Buyers beware! I am not trying to disparage this company because of their product. I am trying to make others aware of an important error that I made. They clearly label that Selenium is a mineral ingredient in this supplement. When I bought this supplement I did so to improve my health by increasing my Glutathione production. It may very well have worked to do that, I don't know. But what I do know is that the increase in my daily intake of Selenium made my hair fall out in clumps! After taking this product twice daily, as the directions say, for over a month, I have lost atleast 1/3 of my hair. It has been very distressing and depressing for me. At first I had no idea as to why my hair was coming out in clumps in the shower, and in my hairbrush, and noticeably thinning. I became worried and scared that something may be seriously wrong with me. I am an otherwise healthy 38 year old woman, just trying to improve my health. So, I started to look closely at what my intake was recently and immediately wondered if it could be this NAC supplement. Sure enough, after researching the potential side effects of the ingredients, WHICH I CLEARLY SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE, I find that the mineral ingredient Selenium taken over the daily recommended intake of 55 micrograms a day causes hairless, fingernail degeneration, many problems associated with the fact that this mineral interferes with the Keratin protein. So, again, the daily recommended allowance of Selenium is 55 micrograms for Adults, and 1 tablet of this NAC supplement provides 25 micrograms. However, they suggest taking two per day, which I did. SO I was taking 50 micrograms of Selenium per day.Read more ›

The one star is not for Nac but for the other ingredients they put in this. I've taken NAC for years from other brands that only contained nac with zero problems. I even took them on an empty stomach. But, the first time I took 2 pills from now foods nac, I vomited and was sick for days. I thought that it was something I ate. I took it again a few weeks later but only 1 pill on a full stomach. I felt dizzy and nauseated. Not as sick as before but this product definitely makes me sick and I believe it's either the selenium or the molybdenum. I suggest using a product that only contains nac if you have a very sensitive stomach.
