If you want a good Higgins novel, read the best man. The blue Heron series is one of my very favorites!!! Of more recent ones. Just ignore this one. I'm so sorry I feel this way!!
So after writing all of that, I actually really like Higgins style of writing and I might read another one of her books. To the people reading this review, I would recommend reading The Next Best Thing, it was much much better.
I loved Sam, what a wonderful guy. Who wouldn't fall for him. And Joe the Carpenter. He is the bad boy that we have all fallen in love with. The guy that we have such high hopes for and in the long run, just aren't what we hoped they would be.
I am so happy that I gave this book a chance, As it turned out to be one of my favorites of Kristan's. Not that I haven't LOVED all of her books!! This will teach me to never judge a book by the first few pages!!
Sam, well what can you say about town cop who is an honest to God modern day knight in shining armour. The man is honest, selfless, noble, overflowing with courage and integrity. Good looking and puts family first.
Millie is the most inspirational heroine I've read in a long time. I wish I knew more people like her.
Joe has a lot of admirable qualities as well and Kristan, ever so slowly developes his character, gradually giving the reader time to get the complete picture.
"Oh what a tangled web".. these people end up weaving! It's hilariously honest in near-perfect dialogue-the bickering, bantering, cooing, woo-ing, table talk, pillow talk and overall general conversations give the reader a fly-on-the-wall like-voyeristic view of these everyday complications in everyday life.
I really wanted to continue reading more about Sam, Millie, Joe, Danny and all the others........but then I would have stayed up later than the 3:45am that I already did!..hahaha
Overall it wasn't awful but it wasn't great either.
