Supporting The Home Team Pt. III {4 Stars}

I don't know, I fell like, good or bad, I had to get this album. I've been spinning in the DC area since '94 and I feel like the rap scene here deserves to blow....and soon. I mean, I've been listening to Oddisee's beats (along with fellow Low Budget crew member Kev Brown) for a while now and I knew they would bring something dope. But something in the back of my head was nervous about whether they'd rep DC right. Well, no more worries there. The definitely represent lovely. You can hear the influences of producers like Jazzy Jeff and J Dilla in his production. The topics have plenty of range and the previously mentioned DJ Jazzy Jeff (my favorite DJ ever since I've been listening to rap) does an awesome job of blending the tracks in a manner that only he can.

As far as flaws, despite a few helpouts from Kev Brown (another DC Area producer/emcee on the rise), I'd have to say that the production doesn't shift gears very often. The production is good, but a lot of the album sounds like one really long single. With that being said, in my humble opinion, the production hurts the replay value. But it's a consistent stream of smooth beats, so I guess it all hinges on what your listening preference is.

With his debut LP, Oddisee accomplishes what few would expect from a rapper from Washington DC. The producer/emcee handles the majority of the production with a few assists from Kev Brown. The topics range from growing up to gentrification to buying new shoes. With great beats, tight rhymes, and superb blending from Jazzy Jeff, Foot In The Door will be kicking down doors before you know it.

"Foot In The Door"??.....More like kicked off its hinges!!

Oddisee is an mc/producer that Ive been feeling for afew years now. With his distinct voice, sharp, intelligent flow and smooth jazzy production he always comes correct. From the days when he was in MASS INFLUENCE (for those of you that want more of his rapping, check their album "The Underground Science", its off the hook!!) right up to today he never seemed to lose that hunger and actually only got better. He's all over production on artists such as Kenn Starr, Supastition, Kev Brown, Wordsworth and many more, with the odd verse thrown in for good measure. So he seems to have kept himself busy when MASS INFL' broke up. He also had a track called "Musik Lounge" on the Jazzy Jeff album "The Magnificent" that was out of this world aswell as afew tracks on the "Halftooth compilation". Back to this however, the only things that stopped this being a 5star classic to me were (1)alot of excellent tracks were mixed after only a minute or so, which wrecks my head, (2)there were too many guests, I really wouldve wanted to hear abit more of Oddisee's flows and finally (3)although his beats are breathtaking, at times alot of tracks seem abit similar. Apart from those minor things its a brilliant mixtape/album with at least 14 full length songs and a whole host of other teasers for any hiphop fans ears!! You need this in your collection.

Who the hell is oddisee and why am I just hearing of him. Oddisee is an amazing producer/artist that kicks it with the likes of the infamous jazzy jeff! This is an amazing release that has some abosulutely dope verses accompanied by lyrics that have some intellignet thought to them. The album also is mixed by Jazzy Jeff. Hip hop needs emcees like Oddisee that love to display lyrical talent, intelligence, and creative different beats. The format of the album is set up like a mix tape so some of the songs are short. But to combat that, there are 34 tracks on the album so you have plenty of material to listen to. Cop this album ASAP!!

Breaking down the door!

Oddisee manages to break down the sad state of commercial hip hop on this album. It's refreshing to hear an artist that seems to be in it for the love of the music rather than what happens to be "hot" at the time. The intro to the last song, Once Again, is just so mind blowing. There isn't a weak cut on this album. It's a mix album, so some of the songs are cut short, which is a bit of a downer. The songs/beats/rhymes are so dope it's a shame when they end short. Like I said earlier Oddisee breaks down the so called radio hip pop, but he does it in a humorous rather than preachy way. Listen to the track Radio Talk.. this album is definitely recommended.

I've been waiting for Oddisee to drop some sort of EP/LP with him being the main attraction, and here it is. I've known Oddisee for a lil while now, mainly from his production side of things...but, he is an emcee/producer and not the other way around. His lyrics go deeper than 85% of the emcees in the game today, no lie, no joke. I would also say that these Oddisee beats are so tight and different than anything you've ever heard. His name wont be kept quiet for too much longer, cause talent like this deserves forefront attention. Buy this cd if ur tired of the commercialized garbage that runs rap and listen to the other side of things.

Oddisse's Odyssey!

Oddisse is undoubtable one of my favourite Producer/Mcee. He has such raw wealth of untained abilities, but with that said I would like him to grow musically and as well as an artist. This album is proof that he has serious

skillz. The flow of the tracks could have been more sound. Now I understand this is a mix album but I would have

preferred the track to be much longer.

Overall though this is a good album. Buy it!!
