- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2011Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified PurchaseThis was my first try at Football Manager franchise, or any soccer/futbol sim. I am usually trying to run association on NBA 2k12. FM2011 is the best sports franchise sim out there. There almost nothing you cant do - seriously. Instead of writing you the basic "review", I will let you know what Ive done in my 4.5 seasons as head coach of the Serie A team, Udinese.
Year Zero - I come on as coach and fire some of my staff, basically expensive guys who arent that good at there positions. I then create two formations, a 4-2-3-1 and another 4-2-3-1 - huh? One is more aggressive offensively then the other. Anyways, I get my lineup together and start the season.
Year One - I wasnt familiar at this point with all the off-season tasks like new transfers ect. I go through my first season pretty quickly, learning which stats affect certain skills. Like defenders need more than high Tackling and Marking, they also need high Concentration for late in games. Well, Alex Sanchez lead Serie A in scoring. Udinese places 4th, earning Champions League entry. I beat Inter Milan for the Italian Cup, and then later for Super Italian Cup. My board is happy and gives me a raise after my first year. I also win Manger of the Year!
Year Two - I release/loan/transfer TONS of my reserve players giving me some $45 million for transfer budget. I by Giuseppe Rossi from Villareal for $44 million. I also get a decent young Attacking Midfielder named Diego. Season two is off and Im struggling. Sanchez and Rossi are not cooperating. Half way through the season Im sitting in 9th place. I adjust my formation, moving Sanchez from striker to Attack Midfielder. Rossi is now my loan striker. I make sign a few young talents for my under 20 squad in January. Champions league is tough, my dudes are tired from playing Champions League, Italian Cup, and Serie A games. This leads me to getting wanting to get stronger backups. I dont make it out of Champions League group stage. I repeat as Italian Cup and Super Italian Cup champs. I impove to 3rd in Serie A. Win Manager of the year again!
Year Three - I make some big moves in summer transfer. I sell a few starters that arent producing. I bring in a couple new powerhouses for around $40million total. One of my main backups asks me to transfer him cause he doesnt feel like he is getting playing time, so I do. Fans are not happy. Oh well. Manchester United wants my keeper and offers me $56million. I turn it down. Man U, City, and Barca all come for Alex Sanchez. This makes Alex Sanchez come to me for a new contract. I negetiate a new contract for him and pay him $95,000/week - DOH. I forgot Rossi had a "Match highest earner" clause in his contract so now he gets an immediate bump in salary to $95,000/wk as well. Argh, there goes my a payroll budget. Week before season starts. Rossi gets a virus infection and is out for 9 months! WTF! I did so good my board decides to put heating coils under my turf, so its a better pitch on cold days. Awesome! Season begins and its my best one yet. Im first heading into January. I sign Neymar, he will join my team in July. Woo! Season ends I get 2nd place! I lost to Inter by 1pt. I also got booted from group stage in CHampions league again. Italian Cup was a disaster, getting knocked out in quarter finals.
Year 3.5 - Uruguay needed a head coach (you can coach one league team and one international). I get them through World Cup qualifiers. I dont go very far and dont make it out of group stages in 2014 World Cup :( At least I still have my job.
Year Four - Neymar doesnt join my team. Apparently I signed some 16yr old overseas player already, and I can only sign one per year. ARGH! I try to get Ozil orr Khedira but both refuse to play for Udinese. Manchester United asks me to coach for them - I turn it down. Anyways, I go into fourth season happy with my team. BAM! I bring in a young stud who was on my backups, and move Sanchez back to striker. Im destroying everyone, but so is Palermo. January comes around and the owner of the team sells Diego, my starting left winger. WTF! He just sells him out of the blue. Im angry, but season must go on, but not before I tell the press that I think the owner is a moron. He doesnt like that and the board ask me not to do that again. Ooops. End of the season I improve from last season by 7pts, but Palermo was a beast and takes Serie A by 4pts ahead of me. 2nd again, damn! Champion League group stage ousted again. Italian Cup semi's ousted.
Year Five - I want Serie A this year, so Im trying a new formation. I got a bunch of strikers/attacking midfielders, so I go with a 4-3-3. Also, I try to improve defense, but all the best defenders in the world dont want to play for little ole Udinese. I have the money, but they dont like my team. ARGH! I request my board to improve training facilites. They agree, finally (they denied me two years prior). I spend my money on a speedy LB and tough RB. Week later, my LB who I just spent $24 million for gets injured in training and out 2 months! Week before season starts another starter out for 7 weeks. I play AC Milan my first game and 3 players get injured! Im out 5 starters by the first game of the season. WTF!!!
This is where I am now. Been having a blast. Got two of my friends addicted to this game as well. You control everything. Even halftime prep talks. If you love manager/sim games. GET THIS NOW!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2011Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified PurchaseThe game installer runs, it completes, it tells you that installation was successful, but the game won't work. It can't find the default database that it just installed.
I have installed using STEAM and also directly from the DVD. Neither works.
I created a ticket with SEGA to see if it a known bug. Ticket ID: KFY-197863, created on Dec 28 2010. As of Jan 03 2011 SEGA has not bothered to look at the ticket yet.
Very disappointing.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2015Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified Purchasethis version crashes very often
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2012Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixI had Football Manager 2010 so I figured I would upgrade to 2011. 2011 has crashed at least 4-5 times on my machine Football Manager 2010 is still working well and I have purchased Football Manager 2012 and it has yet to crash. If you are thinking about getting the game you might as well just get 2012
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2011Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified PurchaseGame doesn't differ that much than the previous version (I only ever buy every other one of this series)
Great, addictive game.
Not like the Fifa/PES games at all, more fantasy soccer.
I've owned about 8 different versions of this game and love them
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2011Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified PurchaseI grew up playing the championship manager series of games and had not played them for a while because they were not easily available in the US. I was surprised when I found out that Amazon was selling the Football Manager 11 and after some research found out that this the series you want if you are into football simulation.
The game is great with tons of data and many more leagues than I would care for. It is not as buggy as someone had said here. I ran into some issue where after a few seasons, the game does not recognize the home grown players correctly but you get around it by going on vacation for a day.
The only problem is that is becomes very addictive and I ended spending way too much time on it. I finally had to uninstall the game to get over the addiction. I plan to hang on to the game however so I can play it again when I have more time.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2013Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified Purchaseworks well. arrived on time. only problem is that it was a pain to install on a windows 8 computer. eventually figured it out though. i love this game and play everyday.im a huge footie fan, so i dont have to play the latest version to have fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2011Platform For Display: PC/Mac/Linux/UnixVerified PurchaseI got this game about a two weeks agoo and its really nice compared to FM 2009
something to point out is that it runs perfectly 3D gaming with my integrated video card maybe once in a while it will slow down but not more than 2 seconds and the game keeps going on really good.
I would recommend this purchase
