“Since I was three, there’s never been a day when I wasn’t in love with you.”
“Like it right now or not, Feb, couple days ago, you gave yourself back to me. You think I’m lettin’ that go, think again because, baby, you’re f****ing wrong.”
For You is a book about second chances, family, love, heartbreak, trust, and forgiveness filled with passion, romance, humor, fun, murder, suspense, mystery and lots of action. I adore both Feb and Colt they are fantastic characters. Colt was a classic sexy alpha. Feb, who hadn't had an easy past, was a strong character with lots of sassiness. The feelings between Feb and Colt were hot, intense, powerful and swoon worthy and I adore them together. They attraction to each other was undeniable, but their past and history meant they had unresolved issues they that would have to overcome if they were going to move forward.
“I remember everything about you and I remember all the reasons why I loved you. Never could forget even when I tried.”
“I’ve moved on, Colt.”
“Bulls***, Feb, you’re stuck, same as me.”
For You is narrated by Liz Thompson a new voice for me and I felt she did a good job. I liked the voices she did for the various characters and I liked her energy and the way she absorbed me into the story. If I were to say anything, it would be that at times, there were some unnecessary pauses, but that could to do with the way the audio was recorded rather than Liz. It was a minor issue and, therefore, didn’t impact my enjoyment of listening to the story.
For You was a great start to this series, with some loveable supporting characters. I loved the ending and I'm absolutely sure that just like KA’s other series I will love this series too, But for now, I jumping back into Colorado Mountain series and listening to Jagged and because of connecting characters I completely understand why KA suggests you read this one first. Another great story by Kristen Ashley that helped feed my KA addiction.
"Until that day, I’d made an art out of avoiding Alexander Colton. All my work would be for nothing, all because of Angie. Poor, sweet, stupid, dead Angie."
Alexander "Colt" Colton and February Owens were born to be together. They've known each other almost their entire lives. They were high school sweethearts and destined to live happily ever after. Then one day Feb broke it off and broke Colt's heart. Feb took off and life went on. Not a life either of them ever imagined, but life nonetheless.
15 years later Feb comes back to help run the family bar. Feb and Colt learn to exist near each other, but they're both living half lives. When the past comes back to haunt them in the form of an axe wielding psychopath, Colt and Feb are thrown together. Old feelings come rushing back, and old wounds are healed. Everyone in town knows they are destined to be together, now they need to see it.
“Romeo and Juliet, say they didn’t die but Juliet got pissed and took off. Everyone would know it was Romeo and Juliet, would always be Romeo and Juliet, even if later Romeo hooked up with Nancy. No one ever heard of Nancy, doesn’t even sound right, Romeo and Nancy. Everyone knows Romeo’s meant to be with Juliet. Even if Romeo loved Nancy, Nancy would always know she was never Juliet.”
As murders are heating up, so are Colt and Feb. They have found their way back to each other, now they just have to stay alive.
I liked this book. I could’ve loved it, but some issues prevented me from loving it. I’ll go over those later.
For You is a second-chance romance that features a couple that had a devastating fall out. Feb and Colt lived in the same town, and have carried on with their lives and relationships with limited interactions, but they’d always had eyes on each other. Feb and Colt had some amazing chemistry. In the beginning it stemmed from their animosity towards each other (which was hot) and then later the heat was the result of a broken couple melding together (which was also hot). Have I said before that I love a second-chance romance?
This novel is a romantic suspense and I enjoyed the suspenseful element in this book – I loved that at times it even felt creepy. The sinister element enhanced the romance as Feb and Colt leaned on each other, and had to let go of past hurts in order to protect each other. I loved watching them push through all their resentment and just lay it all out there. I live for those raw and vulnerable moments.
Funnily, my first reaction to this book was that I thought someone else had written it. I’d gotten used to the alpha males, the choppy sentences, the sassy females that are somewhat…stupid. Too mean? *Shrugs* Well, with her books I almost always like the hero more than I like the heroine but I really loved getting to know Feb. I liked that she was kind of hard, but she was still soft. Of course, the KA signature touches were there: the humor and heart, and for sure Colt was a man I’d love to have in my bed. The thing I liked the most though was that, even with some angst and communication drama, the couple connected early on and had to face everything together.
For You was thrilling and sweet, and there were plenty of memorable moments that I’d love to revisit, but I do believe there was a lot of extra stuff that could’ve been cut. I enjoy seeing the cute everyday scenes as much as the next person, but I don’t need to see every conversation had. For You was a positive experience and it’s a good book, although not my favorite KA. I’m still going to continue my search for that 5 star KA read though. Wish me luck!
