First book I have read by this author, and WOW!! I am hooked, total fan now! Her characters are believable and the emotion really comes across. The story is fairly fast paced, lots of intensity. Anyone that is a fan of witch/ warlock novels will drool over this book!! The spotlight Cheyenne puts on her good/ evil battle mimics much which is true of human nature. She does an amazing job showing how that "line" is not always clear. There is much to feel on both sides of the story. There is intrigue, bits of humor, LOTS of anticipation (for the reader and the characters). Hot, steamy, and at times borderline kinky. An excellent read, anxious for book 2!
Hawk is a winged warrior of the ancient Tuatha D' Danann, descendants of the Fae who have lived in Ireland for thousands of years and now reside in Otherworld. The guardian of the Elves sent him from Otherworld to warn Silver of the return of the demons, the Formorii, whom the Dananns sent to Underworld centuries ago. He is attracted to Silver, but after losing his beloved wife, Davina, to a Basilisk, he has been unable to love another woman.
The Formorii attack Silver's coven, the D'Anu, taking most of them prisoner. These ancient demons escaped from their Underworld prison with the help of a Balorite high priest named Darkwolf. Darkwolf is the keeper of Balor's Eye, a powerful talisman belonging to the ancient leader of the Formorii who was killed by the Dananns. He needs Silver to bring more of the demons back from Underworld and tries to lure Silver to dark magic. Erotic sparks fly between Silver and Hawk, but their future together looks grim. Will Silver fall to dark magic and be lost forever? Can Hawk love another woman again?
Ms. McCray has cleverly crafted a fresh blend of magic, mythology, action and erotica. Hawk is one sexy hero with his long black hair and intense amber eyes. My heart fluttered whenever he came to life on the pages. Silver's struggle with dark magic is something that is difficult to argue-when is it right to kill? I thought Ms. McCray handled this issue with a skillful hand. My only problem is that while these two characters shined on their own, I did not feel that "spark" of chemistry between them. Their erotic sex scenes seemed to be lacking something and when they weren't having sex, they did not confide in each other enough to be a believable couple. To me, the villains were more interesting characters. Darkwolf is one of the scariest villains to come along. His dark good looks and even darker nature made me cringe. I think Junga was the most interesting of all the characters. She is a Formorii leader who, while in a human body, feels subservient to Darkwolf. Forbidden Magic easily blends a well-thought out plot with sheet-gripping erotica, all without blinking an eye. I recommend this for readers who like romances with lots of action and pulse-pounding erotica.
