I was lucky enough to participate in a bus tour recently that visited the sites mentioned in this book around Philadelphia and it was one of the most enjoyable days I have had. If you are ever in Philadelphia, you MUST visit the Masonic Temple. While very educational, it is mind boggling what was created in that one building. I passed it for years and never knew the wealth of information in that one building alone. Bottom line, when you finish this book, you may find yourselves wanting to book your next vacation in Philly.
Leslie puts so much detail and subleties in her writing, that the end result is mindblowing. And if you enjoy the books, then you MUST go to the website and check out all the in-between additions she has for the series. Totally awesome. Oh, and the excerpt at the very end of The Forbidden will have you gasping and biting your nails waiting for The Damned. Better order it now, just to be safe and make sure you get your copy. I can't wait until somebody realizes what great movies these books would make. If you love Harry Potter, and I am a devotee of those books as well, then you will be just ESTATIC over this much more mature series.
"The Forbidden", but this review is more about all the books in the Vampire Huntress Legend series. "The Forbidden" is part of the VHL series and so far has not been a disappointment.
I came across the series as a recommendation from Amazon and am so happy I took a chance.
What I like most is that Ms. Banks has kept her characters real and sincere and has kept true to her own writing style.
Damali, Carlos, and the rest of the team are memorable characters and each have an important role to play (won't tell you more as you need to just look up "The Minion" and the other books to follow)in the battle between The Light and the dark.
For those of you out there who want a fresh approach in the vampire genre, these are the books to read. The books are kind of in the spirit of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books by Laurell K Hamilton in that there is a strong heroine dealing with good and evil, but Ms. Banks takes the characters and the reader to a much deeper level.
