About the Author
Suzanne Wright can’t remember a time when she wasn’t creating characters and telling their tales. Even as a child in England, she loved writing poems, plays, and stories. As an adult, Wright has published fifteen novels: From Rags, Burn, Blaze, five Deep in Your Veins novels, five books in the Phoenix Pack series, and two books in the Mercury Pack series. Wright, who lives in Liverpool with her husband and two children, freely admits that she hates housecleaning and can’t cook but that she always shares chocolate. Harley Vincent is no stranger to danger being the fact that everyone thinks that her father started the Movement. Does she know if he did? No. Does she care if he did? No. All she wants is to be left the heck alone so that she can live her life, but anti-shifter extremists are not about to let her be and one really nosy and persistent reporter is about to get on her last nerve. Now a blast from the past shoulders into her world and turns it upside down.
Jesse Dalton, an Enforcer for the Mercury Pack, knows that losing his mate young changed him in ways that many others would not understand. He is no longer the person he once was, and the person he is now remembers his one night of passion with Harley and knows that she will one day be his. When the young Seer of his pack lets him know that Harley is in danger, Jesse will do whatever he can to protect her, from everything and everyone.
But the extremists are not the only danger lurking around the Mercury pack. There is a half-shifter that is determined to take the Mercury pack lands, by either buying or using blackmail to get them to relinquish it. Danger surrounds the pack, and the Mercury wolves will do what they do best, destroy the danger. The only question is, will they be able to protect all of the members, or will their adversary be a little more than they can handle?
The passion between Harley and Jesse is explosive, but Harley is not afraid of letting her dominant side show. She is truly a badass and she is not afraid of letting everyone know when they have stepped over a line. I also loved the idea of her shifter side, a margay cat. Readers also get to reconnect with other characters from previous books. I highly recommend reading this books as it is freaking amazing!

I wasn't sure how much I would like this story to be honest. Margays are very small wild cats and I wasn't sure how Harley would fare in a world with much larger predators. Additionally, I wasn't overly interested in getting Jesse's story since he has been mostly a background character throughout the series.
I enjoyed getting to know the Mercury pack to a greater extent and being able to see the strong bonds between them. The most interesting aspect to this story for me was that Harley and Jesse are not true mates. This is the first story in this series that has a mated pair who are not true mates so it was extremely interesting to see a different dynamic between the two characters.
Part of me genuinely expected them to turn out to be true mates since Jesse lost his when they were children. So it came as a surprise that it was not to be the case. Aside from Kent and Caleb, the rest of the couples in the Mercury and Phoenix packs are true mates. I liked that the author decided to do this because I was never sure how the mating bond differed between two people who imprinted versus two people who were true mates.
As far as the story depicts the bond, there isn't a major difference aside from them not being made for one another. They suit each other well and have the same intense relationship that mated pairs do. Overall, I enjoyed the story and found it to be a refreshing change of pace. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of these characters, especially Bracken and Eli.
This story brings the same great humor as the previous stories in the series. This can be read as a stand alone novel, but is probably more enjoyable if you read the rest of the stories in both the Phoenix and Mercury series. One major plus is that we saw less of the Phoenix pack in the story than we did the others, which I found to be a great reprieve. There are starting to be so many characters that adding them into the mix often makes the story's cast seem bloated and overwhelming.
The Phoenix pack does make appearances and is mentioned but is does not play as big of a role. Letting them take the backseat in this story gave us time to be able to get to know the other Mercury wolves, which we didn't really get in Spiral of Need. I like seeing less emphasis placed on insults being hurled between Kathy (aka Greta 2.0) and the heroine of the story. There was some tension at first but there wasn't nearly as much animosity between Harley and Kathy as there was between Ally and Kathy.
Definitely a fun read and a great continuation of the series. Looking forward to more!
