Saw this kit on Speed Vision discussing a topic on Plug Blow outs for Ford. I had 2 in the past and had them repaired at $[...] each. Last summer I blew another plug, got a cheap fix at a local franchised Auto Parts store, and then another went on Thanksgiving day. Then on Xmas Eve, the same one that blew during the summer, not only blew, but melted the spark plug and ignition coil. So I searched high and low for this kit, after not having a vehicle for a month. This was the best price I found anywhere, and I searched dozens of sites in a week.

I must say even though the instructions that come with this say if you've used a Fix-a-Thread kit to repair a blow out before to skip 2 steps, don't. It's easier to follow the instructions step by step. And I would strongly recommend anyone doing this themselves to use an air ratchet for steps 1 and 2 at low speed, simply by hand will take quite a bit of effort and time, with air tools, I did the 1st 2 steps in a matter of minutes. I then did the following steps by hand and to the letter. This is a great kit!! Ford Dealers are charged $500 or so for this kit, and it's the only kit Ford approves under warranty as well, if it's not the Ford manufactured kit.

You can find a few vids on Youtube, if you want guidance before attempting this, which I recommend. This is by far the best price and shipping was 4 days from Cali to NJ, it would of been 3 if not for the weekend.

My mustang recently blew a spark plug out of the head and this kit was a life saver. First off it was shipped amazingly quick, next Time-Sert designed this kit and the included instructions very well.

The longest part of this repair was the prep work because of the way that my Mustang is set up. Follow each step as outlined on the instruction sheet and you can not go wrong. I was done with this repair in about two hours, since this is the first time that I have done this I consider that a decent time.

The replacement spark plug went in with no issues once the insert was installed, checked the torque and fired up my engine. Running like it should. This is a great kit and costs about the same as someone would quote you to put in a heli-coil which can fail eventually. This kit is so good at what it does that Ford has approved it as an acceptable repair for this issue. Also this was done over the fender, I did not need to remove the heads to do this repair, another bonus in my book.

I would not hesitate to recommend this kit to anyone with a Ford engine that has had a problem with spark plugs being blown out of their heads.

This kit is expensive but it is a great kit. I did a lot of research and this is the only kit specifically designed for the Ford F150 spark plugs. Before you purchase this kit make sure the spark plug hole you are fixing isn't blown out so bad that this kit will not fix it. The only way to really know is to put an inspection camera down the spark plug hole and make sure it is only stripped and not blown out. I did see a person put their camera phone above the hole and take a picture and that actually worked. One thing you have to make sure when using this kit is that the valves on the cylinder you are using it on are closed or you will damage the valves. See the YouTube video for the guy using this kit on a head he has on the bench and it will be obvious why this is so important. He specifically points it out in the video. If you don't know how to find top dead center on the compression stroke for the cylinder you are repairing in the vehicle then you probably shouldn't purchase this kit.

This is the kit they use when they reman the Ford F150 heads for stripped out spark plug holes.

My blowout: Cylinder #3. That is the passenger side, 3rd one from the front. I am by no means a mechanic and was super intimidated to perform the work myself, but the money I would save vs having a mechanic do it outweighed my fear to try. The kit not only comes with ALMOST everything you need, but the instructions were superb! They are even smartly laminated so that they can be useful if you ever need to perform the steps again.

I say that the kit comes with ALMOST everything you need. What I needed to add were:

* Ratchet set
* Air Ratchet ($80 @ harbor freight)
* Compressor (already had one)
* Grease (to help catch metal chips)
* Break Cleaner (to cleanup the freshly tapped threads)
* Air gun attachment (about an 18" tip bent to fit into the cylinder - < $5 @ Harbor Freight) to blow out metal from my cylinder after each step
* Magnet with telescoping handle to pull out metal from my cylinder after each step

Not being a mechanic, I didn't know how long to do the first two grinding/drilling steps. I only knew that I didn't do it enough when I got to the tapping step, and it wasn't cutting new threads. It spun and spun and spun for like 5 minutes without cutting before I figured I should retry the previous 2 steps. I had to go back to step 1 and step 2 again before I was able to successfully tap the new threads.

The second time around, I dabbed a little bit of grease on the stopper area where the bits would hit the block when you've drilled enough, and when it was all smeared, I knew it was touching the head, so I had to have drilled far down enough. The tools are made so that they won't cut any more and will just spin freely when you've reach the proper depths, so you don't have to worry about going too far.
