From the Author
This is an updated version of Foreign Deceit, with a fully-resolved ending.
Foreign Deceit was originally published in December of 2012, written during a thirteen-month stint in a small town in northern Italy with my wife and son. It is my first novel in the David Wolf mystery series, and my first novel altogether. Since that day I hit the publish button a year ago, I've completely re-worked the novel from front to back, addressing issues that were detracting from the reading experience with a professional editor, and republished it as a second edition in November of 2013
-- the edition presented here.
As far as the experience of writing my first novel goes, I'll always remember pecking on the keyboard for hundreds of hours in a little muggy room listening to screaming fifty-cc engines and loud conversations in Italian as they passed by the open window, sucking in exhaust fumes in the morning, Egyptian pizza aromas at noon, and mouthwatering fish smells on Fridays.
I enjoyed writing this first book so much, and wasn't prepared for how much stress it would cause as well (thank goodness for Prosecco). I probably would have felt even more strain had I known the process wouldn't be done until a year later, when I was back in Colorado -- back where I had found myself longing for while writing that first draft.
This is the first in what I intend to be a long line of mystery thriller books starring David Wolf and his friends in the department in the up-and-coming ski resort town of Rocky Points, Colorado. I hope it's as much of an adventure for you to read as it was for me to write.
