About the author

Vance Huxley lives out in the countryside in Lincolnshire, England. He has spent a busy life working in many different fields – including the building and rail industries, as a workshop manager, trouble-shooter for an engineering firm, accountancy, cafe proprietor, and graphic artist. He also spent time in other jobs, and is proud of never being dismissed, and only
once made redundant.
Eventually he found his Noeline, but unfortunately she died much too young. To help with the aftermath, Vance tried writing though without any real structure. As an editor and beta readers explained the difference between words and books, he tried again.
Now he tries to type as often as possible in spite of the assistance of his cats, since his legs no longer work well enough to allow anything more strenuous. An avid reader of sci-fi, fantasy and adventure novels, his writing tends towards those genres.

Huxley, the author is a revelation. Through this masterfully woven tale of the imperfect protagonist who finds his destiny only when he faces his fears, the author has tried to convey a subtle message to all those who feel that their inability to fit in, has limited their lives.
A longer read, this is gripping enough to make sure you read all the way through. An adventure packed tale which is bound to be a favorite not only among fans of this genre but also with people who are looking for a good read that can capture your emotions and take you to a different world.
The author does a great job of developing characters and painting a picture of the scenery in your mind as well as adding plenty of twists in the plot to keep you reading. I also really enjoyed how the author created a very believable society complete with their own accent, rules, and elders. Taking the time to do that makes the story so well rounded and complete. My favorite relationship was the building suspense of Ellibeth and Billi and that kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I hope the story continues to show what happens in the new village, Two Lakes, and their neighbor the Great Hunter. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a nice quick and interesting read. I hope there is a sequel because I will be first in line to read that!

If you are looking for a multi volume saga of lost princes, mighty sorcerers and world changing battles, look elsewhere. But if you want a very well written, character driven story about a very engaging individual I think you should give this book a try. There are a few questions left open about the history of this world but I rather got the feeling that might be deliberate as too much explaining could have detracted from the flow of the story and the question of whether this society has devolved from something more after some world changing disaster or is still evolving isn't really relevant to the plot.
