Huxley, the author is a revelation. Through this masterfully woven tale of the imperfect protagonist who finds his destiny only when he faces his fears, the author has tried to convey a subtle message to all those who feel that their inability to fit in, has limited their lives.
A longer read, this is gripping enough to make sure you read all the way through. An adventure packed tale which is bound to be a favorite not only among fans of this genre but also with people who are looking for a good read that can capture your emotions and take you to a different world.
The author does a great job of developing characters and painting a picture of the scenery in your mind as well as adding plenty of twists in the plot to keep you reading. I also really enjoyed how the author created a very believable society complete with their own accent, rules, and elders. Taking the time to do that makes the story so well rounded and complete. My favorite relationship was the building suspense of Ellibeth and Billi and that kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I hope the story continues to show what happens in the new village, Two Lakes, and their neighbor the Great Hunter. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a nice quick and interesting read. I hope there is a sequel because I will be first in line to read that!
One-legged Billi and his three-legged hound, Rabbit, live in a village where everybody has a role, and Huxley's unique language and vivid imagery immerse you in the lives of Billi and the other villagers. Amongst their way of life is a respect for the natural environment and ways of the wild, and readers will find this simplistic return to nature and living off the land refreshing and a good reminder for their everyday lives.
Overall this is a highly recommended book, readers will find themselves along for the ride with Billi and Rabbit as they grow in experience, in stature, and in self-confidence through their hunts, adventures and relations, and will not regret picking up this book.
Drawing the readers to a medieval world setting of Trail's End, we find the not so typical Billi who's a one legged man spirited with an unfaltering hope for the welfare of his community. Being the chosen one in the youth, geared with his bow and spear, he strives with his equally encouraging companion, Rabbit the Hound. Their inspiring friendship is bounded by a mental link or a "song" wherein they can understand each other and they can never be unbroken.
The journey to observe the Laws of the Forest and the Wild inexplicably brings Billi to the realization that his path just turns out to be more diverse yet a chance for him to face his fears and accept his meaningful fate. It has become very relatable for me since I practically had to cheer along with him as he represented the people who are always downed and doubted. He have found himself along the way and it sends a message to the readers how determination and self-belief can lead one to fulfill his goals with the help of the people who believe in you.
Huxley, as expected, is a master storyteller. The gripping plotline made the tension and excitement worthwhile. It is a story of unity, sacrifices and a whole lot of adventure in fighting demons within as well as of one's world. Every factor that I look for in a book is already packaged in his work. From originality, creativity, and depth. I recommend this to anyone and to all ages who needs a breather from the norms. I'm only certain that readers will be captivated till the last page.
