why that stuff was almost 3x the $$. His chaps are noticeably higher quality but going from no chaps to these chaps will do most people just fine. The helmet is great and comfortable and the hearing protection does a great job. I am happy with my purchase!
The face shield screen really keeps the chips out of my eyes and protects my expensive glasses. The whole helmet, shield, and muffs protect my head when I walk through brush that normally would whip my face and ears.
Let's hope I never need the chaps but if I do, they will shred instead of my leg.
If I were a professional tree trimmer or logger I would most likely look for higher quality. As a homeowner, who occasionally uses his chainsaw this is probably a good fit for the price, certainly compared with the alternative of not using any safety equipment.
I haven't had to test the chaps, and hope I never do, but they fit well and they're adjustable several ways. I'm 5'10" with a 31-inch inseam and they're a good length on me in heavy work boots. Someone over six feet should probably order the longer chaps.
The helmet is easily adjustable and the built-in hearing protection works quite well. The face shield screen is metal and has begun to rust where sweat has dripped onto it over time, but it's only noticeable if I focus on it while I'm wearing the helmet.
The included safety glasses are uncomfortable and fog up easily. If they work for you, great, but if you're shopping for this you've probably already got a good pair of safety glasses that you like better anyway. Wear those.
That said, I cut up a couple cords of firewood for my sister in Oregon and cut down/up several trees on my property in Alaska and the trail leading to it through the R.O.W. And felt comfortable and safer doing so. I left these in Alaska and will likely buy another set for my use in Oregon/Alabama/Nevada when cutting wood in those locations (I move around a lot... and am an outdoorsy/wood heat/wood BBQ kind of guy)...
Please be safe, as an OSHA 511 certified Safety Professional, I see that too many of the severe injuries and deaths that happen were all easily preventable, don’t be the negative statistic, accidents happen all the time, they are rarely deadly to people who take the proper precautions.
Chaps: Cheap polyester that will protect your leg from the chain. Better the chaps gum up the chain instead of your leg. But its not tough and will probably rip with lots of use around branches.
Helmet: Plastic, not steal. So don't throw it in the truck.
Face Shield: Flexible plastic with steel mesh. Another reviewer stated the clips are cheap and broke on him - he's right, they are cheap (I'm glad he mentioned this, so I was aware), Don't toss the helmet around.
Ear: They work and for occasional use sufficiently comfortable use.
One complaint: No assembly instructions. Box shown was not provided, which has the instructions. Had to search web and look at pics.
Trimming limbs is a dangerous job because you are cutting close to the ground and these offer zero protection for your lower legs. The helmet is less superior than one you could purchase at a toy store.
Rather than send it back, I gave it to my grand kid as he thought it made a fine jet fighter plane suit. Perhaps it should be sold at a lower price point in a dollar store's toy section!
