Olivia had left home and gone to California to get her career in public relations started. She worked for a firm who represented some of the biggest stars in California. Olivia had to be on hand to put out fires started by their clients and to make sure unpleasant and negative publicity was kept to a minimum. One of her hardest clients to work with was Brad Pearson. Now he had really done it. He had suddenly kissed her in front of the press. The resulting picture looks like she is really enjoying it and returning the kiss; but she was not, she was furious. First, there was no relationship other than professional between them even if Brad claimed he was in love with Olivia. Second, there was an ironclad clause in her contract forbidding anything other than a professional relationship between her and clients. Now she was in danger of losing her job. She fled the press and California to give things a chance to die down. Until the press figured out where she was, Windswept Bay offered the best and safest hiding place.
The first night found her hunting for a mewing kitten who was keeping her awake. She found the kitten on the roof and despite her fear of heights, got a ladder and climbed up to get the kitten. As she reached for it, the kitten moved further away so Olivia climbed onto the roof. As it started raining, the kitten jumped on a branch and climbed down. Olivia was stuck on the roof as she had knocked down the ladder when she got onto the roof. Now she was stuck in her pajamas in the pouring rain.
BJ McCall was walking the beach considering what had brought him here. He had just found out that his Dad was not his biological Dad and that his biological Father had another son, Gage, and had left his entire fortune plus the house on the beach equally to his sons. BJ was trying to figure things out when he saw a beautiful young woman sitting on the roof in the rain. His curiosity and innate respect for women led him to offer his help in getting her down. What would this start?
Olivia has been missing so far in all the previous books, and I had to wonder why. Now we all know. I, myself have realized a long time ago that Hollywood is full of half truths and false illusions about the stars, and who's doing what with who. And this was one of those times once again, where something so innocent was made to look much different than it really was. The fact that Olivia's own boss knows how things work, and still not only didn't back her up, but fired her over the incident.... makes me sick. But I'm so glad she's back home with her supportive family and friends, where she belongs now.
We first met BJ in the last book, and not under real good circumstances, either. He was shocked by what he found out, and is still trying to come to grasps with everything that's been thrown at him recently in this book. I can't say that I blame him, that's a lot to take in all at once.
I love the support and love this family has for one another. I also love the light-heartedness, between BJ and Olivia. They were perfect together from the very first time they met, and their friendship seemed to grow from there.
Without giving the plot or the story away, let’s just say I am looking forward to more stories in Windswept Bay. I hope down the line the brothers will get their own books, and who knows, if we're lucky.... maybe BJ's sister Lilly will too.
A must read.
