Even as a more YA feel with the characters in high school, this book's emotions and even the brokenness of the characters will keep any romance lover entertained through the story, as well as future stories abt all the characters the reader meets.
After a double betrayal leaves them raw and reeling, Marley Fallon and her father move in with her grandparents to try and get on with their lives. Marley wants nothing more than to leave her old self behind, going so far as to alter her appearance in an attempt to make a fresh start at school. Even though she comes from a wealthy family, she interviews for a waitressing job at the local country club to keep busy and earn her own money. A coworker named Wyatt soon catches her eye.
Against the warnings of her new friends at school, Marley befriends the aloof and attractive young man. Their relationship gradually blossoms from mere friendship to feelings neither of them are ready to embrace in their current frames of mind. Marley still hasn’t recovered from what happened with her mother and ex, and Wyatt is too busy trying to raise his sisters to make time for anyone else. But their young hearts refuse to be ignored, especially when they both want the same things—loyalty, affection, and respect. What follows their acceptance of their feelings for one another is a realistic and beautiful love story that made me gasp, laugh, shake a fist in rage, wave an imaginary pompom, and cry in happiness, sadness, and anger.
The level of craftsmanship in the plot of this novel blew me away. Abrianna Denae handled the slow burn between Wyatt and Marley like a seasoned writer who has created similar scenarios in many other stories. I can’t remember the last time a gradual smolder felt so rewarding when it turned into an inferno. Many of the scenes set in the high school brought me right back to my teenage years. The dialogue and mannerisms of the characters were spot-on. Wyatt had a tendency to act older than his age, but it’s understandable once you learn about his background and home life. Also, I appreciate how the author didn’t have him and Marley segue into a physical relationship right away. It added credibility to how fragile their current states of minds were supposed to be.
Although I’m an avid reader, I won’t forget this story anytime soon. I’m confident that the talented Ms. Denae will continue to wow me with future novels. I look forward to reading each and every one of them, and I encourage you to give this new author a chance. I highly doubt you will regret it.
The first page peaked my interest, and by about 40% I was hooked. I'm busting to know what happens in book 2. Well done Abrianna, excellent first book.
Wow, this story was quite unique. We are taken on an emotional journey with our main characters Marley and Wyatt while they try to navigate their crumbling family structure, their vulnerabilities, their reluctant attraction to one another and how best to deal with their thoughts and feelings without getting hurt.
I loved the rawness that Abrianna gives her characters, especially Marley, Wyatt and a few of the others, deal with so much at such a young age and have had to mature and find themselves a lot earlier then most.
The emotions are strong and real and the progression of the book felt natural albeit awkward at times, but it was great to see these characters grow, become stronger, find themselves and become whoever it is they were meant to be.
Abrianna has a lot of potential to create amazing stories in the future.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
The story has depth and grit. Many emotions ran through me as I learned more and more about who Marley is. Her emotionless trek through life came to a screeching halt when she met Wyatt.
"Wyatt Hensley might just become the best and worst thing that’s ever happened to me."
When she finds Wyatt, the story really turns down that twisty path of intrigue.
Thank you, Abrianna Denae, for sharing your debut novel. It takes a lot to put a story out there. Your debut with Forever shows us the potential you have for writing. I'm reviewing based off the storyline and content. Your mind has such depth for Marley. I'm intrigued for more. I know you will grow with each book. I'm thankful to have been part of reviewing your debut.
I recommend this novel to all readers who love YA romance.
