I mentioned this in a writers' email group, and Linore wondered if this book would fit in the fantasy area. Yes, and much more.
The time travel aspect certainly puts it in the fantasy category. It is also a love story. Unlike many novels labeled as romance, "Forever, Lately," isn't the typical sappy story of girl gets boy, girl loses boy, boy returns, and everyone lives sappily ever after.
Writer Claire Channing is desperately trying to complete her novel. She decides to go to her grandmother's old cottage for the peace and quiet writers crave. While at her keyboard, she's transported to the Regency era, where she meets Julian St. John, a character in her current novel. As she is propelled back and forth in time, Claire finds her affections for St. John growing, and so are his.
I not only enjoyed the time travel aspect, and the wonder around it, I enjoyed the growing relationship between Channing and St. Johns. It wasn't the typical "love" story. The relationship grew as normally expected with all the ups and downs of friendships and romances.
I recommend this novel to fantasy readers as well as romance addicts.
What a perfect story of time-travel. This novel, Forever, Lately, by Lenore Rose Burkhard, was much more than just a Regency/modern romance. It morphed into a suspense, became a mystery, and involved more twists and turns than one might have imagined possible. The serpentine path of the plot moved the narrative from “simple” to “complex” and “compelling.”
I loved the main characters, Julian St. John and Claire Channing, and her grandmother. So charming! I strongly disliked a main character, but I did like how well the supporting characters came together to enhance the tale. This is a great Regency time travel that I recommend.
I received this complimentary book from the author via Celebrate Lit. This is no way affected my opinions, which are solely my own.

I could not put this book down and read it in one day. I loved Julian St. John. He was the perfect mixture of a proper regency gentleman with a touch of a scandalous cad. Loved him! As for Claire, she was brilliant and his ideal match.
I've never read a story that so enthralled me from the get-go. The author has given all readers (and writers) the "what-if" story we all ask. What if we could meet our characters? What if we could step into their world? What would happen? The author answers these questions well.
However, as much as I loved this story, the faith element that I love in Christian books was missing. While there was mention of Julian becoming "reformed" and a Christian, little was said as to how this reformation took place. As far as I could tell, there was no discernible theme of redemption, repentance or salvation. In such a great story, that is marketed as a Christian book it was sad to see this lost opportunity to explore Julian's change of heart further.
Nevertheless, Forever, Lately, left me wanting to read more by this author, and despite my four-star rating may be my top pick for 2019.
In my opinion, the work needs pruning, and then the solid characterization and unique plot twists can shine through as they deserve to do.
