Jessica Blake has moved herself, her son, and her son's puppy to a new town. Everything is going okay until the puppy steals Jessica's wallet and hides it in his dog house. Wiley Is a big puppy, so he has a big dog house, big enough for Jessica to get in far enough to get her wallet, but not big enough for her to get back out. Her son Brandon does what any responsible second grader would do and calls 911. The fire department sends a truck and soon has Jessica cut out of the dog house and Brandon in tears because of the damage. Life, however, goes on. Until that Friday night when Jessica meets her rescuer at the Community Emergency Certification Training she is attending as a representative of her school. Reid McAllister is a firefighter, surfer, free spirit, the glue that holds his family together, Jack of all trades. And smoking hot. Something that Jessica is trying to ignore because years ago she made some bad decisions. When she found out she was pregnant, she convinced the father to marry her. It didn't last. Now she doesn't trust any of her decisions about men.
And Reid? A dedicated firefighter, he has lived in the same town most of his life. He had taken a year off right out of high school to travel the world and surf, but came back home when his family needed him. Now that his little sister is about to graduate from high school and go to college in the fall, he'll be free to leave town. And he doesn't do serious relationships.
What follows is a beautiful love story of two people who have wrapped their hearts to protect against pain, who don't trust themselves enough to trust someone else. Who, with the help family of friends who are close enough to be family, realize that there are no guarantees in life and forever starts when they are willing to open their hearts to each other.
Reid is a firefighter who rescues Jessica (from a dog house, but we won't talk about that). He's drawn to her and when fate steps in, putting them together once more, he isn't willing to just give it up.
The only thing I HATE about romance books is the inevitable breakup over something stupid. THIS time though, the breakup was a little odd but it wasn't over something stupid, so I was pleased with that.
Great writing, great books. Can't wait for Kate's book, even though I don't want the series to end.
