Carolyn Brown is one of my favorite authors, and I grabbed this book as soon as it appeared at my local library. I was hooked from page one. Fancy Lynn wasn't looking for love in Texas, and her run-in with part-time police officer Theron Warren sets the tone for their relationship. Sparks flew every time they met, but both were determined to ignore the sparks. They danced around their feelings as they got to know each other better, and it was one step forward and two steps back and very entertaining to watch. Take one woman who wants forever, a man who has had his heart stomped on and isn't planning to give it away again, add some supporting characters taken from any small town in America, mix gently and you have the perfect reading experience. I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in this series.

I started this 3 book series about three high school friends after reading another Carolyn Brown book. I like her writing style. Her stories are original and the characters feel real even when circumstances are a little far fetched. These books are a little shorter than some of the other Carolyn Brown books. They average about 250 pages. The love story is sweet with plenty of sexual tension before the characters finally end up together, but don't expect any graphic love scenes.

I have love all of Carolyn Brown books, but some just a little bit more than the others. I have to say that this one is right at the top of my all time favorites, so far. In fact; I love this story so much, that I really don't know where to start first. It has so many twists and turns, that it will surely make your head swim.

Here's how it starts off....

Fancy Lynn Sawyer gave up her teaching job in Fl, and moves to Texas to take care of her grandmother. They had been notified that her grandmother had fallen and broke her hip, and was put into a nursing home/ rehab facility for the next three weeks. They also stated that when she came home she would need help getting around for another month or two, so Fancy was here to do what she could. It wasn't going to be easy though, because her grandmother has always been a very cantankerous woman. A woman who had always scared the crap out of Fancy for as many years as she could remember, and still did...

Her grandmother had always seemed like she hated Fancy and her mother Gwen, but no one really ever knew why. Gwen had Fancy when she was only sixteen years old, and Fancy's biological father had died before she was ever born. When she was about fifteen, her mother had finally found another man, and they married soon after and moved to Florida. Now fifteen years later, Fancy is back to take of her grandmother at the request of her mother.

The first week she was there, she was driving down the street when a black cat ran out in front of her car. Fancy swerved to miss the cat, and in the process she looses control of the car. When she looks up in the rear view mirror, she notices red and blue flashing lights.

I have found that with Carolyn Brown I really like her books or I really dislike them. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground. But, I have decided that this one will be my last one. I just don't like paying for books (even 99 cents for this one) that I just don't like. The hero (?) Theron was a school principal, part-time policeman, church deacon, Sunday school teacher, and rancher. He was also the rear end of a horse. The heroine was a schoolteacher who gave up her job to return to Texas to take care of her grandmother. Their first meeting has him handcuffing her and putting her in jail in a manner that is totally unbelievable and would cause a major lawsuit in the real world. Naturally, each time they meet thereafter is a mini-battle. None of it believable. This schoolteacher, Fancy (how silly is that name?) has 2 BFFs from high school and they all act more like they are 12, not 30. Their dialogue is truly cringe worthy. Every cliche you can imagine is thrown into this book. The gossipy old church ladies, the former high school stud now on his third wife (and missing a tooth!), the wickedly cruel grandmother, and then the darling little girl who is unexpectedly given up to a father who had been unaware of her existence. Oh, please! And the hero who has all the responsible jobs listed above then thinks nothing of moving Fancy into his home to care for his daughter. A principal and church deacon? Wow. I really don't understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews, but I am glad that they enjoyed the book. I certainly did not.

Carolyn Brown has done it again with this delightful love story, in the first of three books, "A Three Magic Words Romance" series. After returning home in Albany Texas, after fifteen years, Fancy Lynn Sawyer, still can't believe that it's been that long, since she's been gone. Only planning to stay temporarily, in order to tend to her grandmother's needs, the last thing she ever expected as she drove into town, was to get pulled over by some cop. As she tried to explain that she swerved the wheel, in order to prevent hitting a cat, that it wasn't alchahol he smelled, but almond extract for baking, and to top it all, she wasn't fifteen, but actually thirty, that was enough for police officer, Theron Warren, and he arrested her on the spot. She told him, he was about to look very foolish, and in no time, he was. Being a shoolteacher, Fancy had an interview the next day with the school board, but when she met the principal, she knew it was all over, because the principal was, no other than Theron, himself! Putting that position in the back of her mind, the pastor asked if she would like to assist Sunday School? Of course she would, but when she opened the door to meet the Sunday School teacher, she was in utter shock. It was Theron Warren again! How many jobs does this man have? This time, she was not walking away, and before long, they were fighting tooth and nail, and she couldn't care less about it either. Telling her two best friends, Kate and Sophie, they told her that she couldn't deny the chemistry between Theron and herself. Fancy had made up her mind years earlier, when she moved to Florida, so long ago. She wanted to hear those three little words, and it wasn't "I love you". It was "A Forever Thing", and nothing else mattered, that's all there was to it!Read more ›
