Sharing the story of Forevermore didn't come without a lot of soul searching. First this lady says she talks to the other side and now she claims to have spoken to the literary genius Edgar Allan Poe from beyond the grave? Where is the straight jacket? I ask you to just keep an open mind and read the book before judgement, because even my harshest critics have gone away pondering that maybe, just maybe, we all have helpers on the other side, and why not Poe, or someone else that made an impact on our lives, be it through literature, medicine, science, etc? And if me, why not you too?
About the Author
Kristy Robinett (Livonia, MI) is a psychic medium and author who began seeing spirits at the age of three. When she was eight, the spirit of her deceased grandfather helped her escape from a would-be kidnapper, and it was then that Robinett realized the Other Side wasn't so far away. As an adult, she was often called upon by the local police department to examine cold cases in a new light and from a different angle. She gained a solid reputation for being extremely accurate at psychical profiling and giving new perspectives on unsolved crimes. It was then that she began working with a variety of law enforcement agencies, attorneys and private investigators around the United States, aiding in missing persons, arson, and cold cases. Her psychic detective work was recognized in a new series on the ID Network, Restless Souls.
Robinett teaches psychic development and paranormal investigating at local colleges, lectures across the country and is a regular media commentator and has been spotlighted on Coast to Coast, Darkness Radio, ABC News, Fox News and the Ricki Lake Show. She is the author of Forevermore: Guided in Spirit by Edgar Allan Poe; Messenger Between Worlds: True Stories from a Psychic Medium; Higher Intuitions Oracle; Ghosts of Southeast Michigan; and Michigan's Haunted Legends and Lore. I seldom write about books that I dislike and actually don't write about a lot of the ones I enjoy. It's primarily dependent on the amount of time available for concentrating on something other than my own writing. The following is about a lousy one that I thought had to be self-published, as I thought no publisher would print anything that bad.
The name of the book is Forevermore, written by Kristy Robinett and published this year by Llewellen Publications. In checking on the publisher, I find that they publish supernatural and other materials that are not considered mainstream. If there is a market for it, this company will publish it.
The book was written by a psychic medium who claims that Edgar Allen Poe has been one of her mentors throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Robinett makes many claims about other mentors, seeing dead people, ghosts, etc. and I don't dispute those claims. Maybe she really, truly does. I don't believe the Edgar Allen Poe connection, though.
What disgusts me about the book is that the lady can't write! Here's a quote from page 106: ""Poe loved animals and even had his own cat with his wife Virginia that he doted on, believed to be a tortoiseshell named Catterina."
Kristy's story about having Poe as her spirit guide is the kind of tale that can appeal to a wide variety of people: fans of Poe, history buffs, paranormal enthusiasts, those interested in past lives... there's even a bit of whodunit.
What I love most about this book is Kristy's writing style, which makes it an easy and entertaining read. I was able to read the book within two weeks but a voracious reader could get through it more quickly.
Another thing I really admire about "Forevermore" is how Kristy includes just enough backstory where needed to make her story clear yet doesn't overdo it for those of us who've read her previous books, like "Messenger Between Worlds." In this sense, Kristy's writing reminds me of how JK Rowling succinctly recapped previous books throughout the entire Harry Potter series. It's a writing skill that regular readers can appreciate.
I enjoyed learning about spirit guides via Kristy and Poe's story. Information and tips for connecting with your own spirit guides also is included at the conclusion of the book.
I have read books on spirit guides before, but never one on a specific guide, let alone a famous one. I found Kristy's story utterly fascinating. It was well written, in an almost fantasy-like prose despite the fact that this is a book of firsthand accounts. It was very easy to read and understand, even if one has never read anything on the topic before. It's clear from this book that she has a great gift for story telling, something that no doubt Mr. Poe contributed to. This book follows Kristy from childhood into adult hood, and charts her journey and growth both with her spirit guide(s) and as a medium as a whole. She shares how she's used these gifts and how she's learned to use them by telling stories about her life, and specifically, how it helped her in the career of law enforcement.
I was also really happy with how much fact was presented in this book. Whether you are a spiritually inclined person or not, you will at the very least learn quite a bit about Edgar Allan Poe himself. I found this useful, because any information that I knew about him previously was only through my own interested Googling. I don't know how schooling is in other places, but in my district (and college, if we're being honest) never really focus on the authors themselves, just their texts. This gives an intimate look into his life in a way that not many can narrate.
This book is a little bit of a lot of things that make it somehow work together as a whole book. It is a little bit self-help/instructional guide, a little bit of excellent writing, a bit of historical fact, a bit fantastical, and a bit of memoir/nonfiction all rolled into one handy little book. This is one that I would recommend to anyone who considers themselves spiritual, a medium, or who just loves Edgar Allan Poe in general. I'll definitely be taking along a few lessons from this book and integrating them into my own life.
Thank you so much to Netgalley & Llewellyn Publications who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
