This author has qualities I like. I pre-ordered Forged in Flame as soon as it was available.
The book begins with Morgan waking from an horrific nightmare on the third anniversary of one of the most traumatic periods in her life. This is strange as many odd things have happened in her 1700 years as a vampire; and vampires do not dream!
It was bad for this scaredy-cat too as it dropped on to my kindle at midnight!!
I won't tell you much but it starts with my doppelganger, my sister in wimpishness, Emily, scaring herself on her way to her apartment...almost convincing herself the other footsteps are an echo of her own.
Imagine her relief when it turns out to be her neighbour coming back from the store with his shopping in a split carrier bag. D'oh.
Many of the vampire myths I thought as true have been de-bunked recently. Garlic is a non issue, crosses - no worries unless they are silver. Needing to be invited...uh oh...
EMILY DON'T INVITE HIM IN...Oops, too late.
This is where the cool vamps arrive. The Assassin, The Lead Enforcer, The Baby Vamp who used to be a police detective, The Lord of the City...scratch him...he's more likely to pass on a gross childhood condition. Not cool.
Mitchell Rabe leads us around San Francisco looking for Morgan's next night club (can I just say here that realtor got off way too easy), New Orleans, Las Vagas etc. as the death toll rises.
Morgan's vampires are the good guys; trying to limit the rising numbers and clearing up to keep their anonymity. As peace falls over another dawn/dusk eh...whatever...one simple paragraph segues in to...Book Three...and I am addicted.
