In just a few short lines you are pulled into the story as if you are personally experiencing the theme, setting and characters. The author has a way with words that enables you to become submerged in a different place and time. The book includes magic, pain, great joy, loyalty and devoted ever binding love.
While reading the book I was able to see resemblances between Evelyn and Tallulah. Evelyn is about the same age as Tallulah in Em Shotwell's novel "Blackbird Summer". In both books they have been matched with their perfect match according to their family...but is it really perfect for them?
The audience will appreciate the tact that was taken when writing about the Vietnam War. The letters written between the characters enhance the authenticity of the storyline. Many veterans returned home with aftereffects from the war. These repercussions effect the veterans, their family members and friends. The author did a great job at portraying some of the aftereffects caused by war.
This entrancing nove is about love and war through the lives of the Caibre family. A family who are outcast in their small town of Brooklyn, Mississippi. Even though they are outcast this amazing novel reveals the honest truth behind true love. Em's novel titled "Forget Me Not" will surely not be forgotten. I can't wait to see where she takes us next with the Caibre family.
Thank you City Owl for the ARC copy of Forget Me Not.
Usually, I find novellas lacking, but Em Shotwell tells a perfect love story from beginning to end!
Thank you, City Owl Press, for an advanced copy!
Engaging, honest, and believable, Shotwell's writing takes the reader directly into the conflicting loyalties and emotions of a young couple falling in love during the Vietnam War. Historical research was well done, especially regarding the image of the entire country huddled around their televisions during the military draft. The love letters were especially poignant and gripping. I am not a big romance reader, but this is not your typical romance book. The characters and setting made it all worthwhile. A fulfilling read from a promising author.
