Forgiving Chase is book five in the Granite Falls series by Cynthia Cooke. This book can be read as a complete stand alone.

We met Jacquie Halloway in the previous book, Falling For the Sheriff, as the sheriff, Josh’s younger sister from Raleigh. She was a police detective for the Raleigh PD. But has decided to come home to Granite Falls. She needs a quieter life and wants to be closer to her family. But that quieter life doesn’t happen. Jacquie finds herself right in the middle of an attempted murder scene and then her own life is almost taken, twice!

It’s been eight years since Chase McKenzie left Granite Falls to support his younger brother. He vowed never to return. Chase is part owner of Guardian Securities out of Charlotte. But when he finds out that the woman he loved and left behind all those years ago, Jacquie, is in trouble, and her brother asks for his help, he can’t say no. He may have abandoned Jacquie but he never stopped caring for her. He’ll help out and make sure she’s safe. Then return to Charlotte. Or so he thought.

Jacquie is not happy to see Chase in Granite Falls. But finds herself forgiving him when he finally tells her the story of why he left. But, with all the trouble happening in Granite Falls, it seems once again that Chase’s younger brother is right in the middle of it all. Will Chase once again choose his brother over her? Is there any hope of a future for them together or should Jacquie protect her heart from being shattered all over again?

This book grabbed me right from the first page. I couldn’t put it down. The action is pretty non-stop throughout. I love Cynthia’s writing. Other than some passionate kissing, I feel like I need to tell you that there aren’t any sexy times but surprisingly, I didn’t miss it at all. There was too much else going on. There is promise of more for this series and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
