Beautiful set of dice... and the box's not bad either!

Beautiful set of dice... and the box's not bad either!
I was in the market for some new blue dice for an upcoming character. A quick search around, and this boxed set was presented to me for a pre-order. I hemmed and hawed on them for a bit, but ultimately the advertisement that the box has velvet inline and doubles as a good dice tray sold me. I am glad it did! Starting with the dice, they appear light blue with a teal glitter across it's surface. When hit with sunlight it shines brightly almost becoming an ice blue core. The 20 side has the iconic D&D symbol that I'm suprised is able to be shown clearly. The 20's were quite a bit larger than I was expecting, which is a good thing for me as I can use the 2 as a "fidget toy" like baoding balls, yet small enough to still be used in my dice tower. My only gripe was on one of the 20's, part of the silver on the tail wasn't completely filled in, but that was a simple fix. The cards are made of high quality cardstock, the art on them are quite beautiful. They help with giving players a good visual, as well as giving the DM a quick once over for the character's personality and goals. There were also a few locations along the coast which was neat. The map was on the smaller side, but even so had high enough details to see each location. Lastly the box itself feels pretty sturdy, with no concerns about any metal dice dinging up the backside or table. Definitely going to be my go to dice tray for quite some time!

Okay, so I've seen some bad reviews of this product, and I almost didn't get it because of the negative reviews. I'm glad I ultimately decided to go for it. Like many WotC products, you're getting great value for the money spent.

Let's look at what you get:
-A nice set of dice. They're seriously a good set of dice. No, they're not metal or anything, but high-quality nonetheless. They have great weight to them. I love the bigger d20s. Plus you're getting two d20s and four d6s. Similar quality resin dice sets go for about 13 - 15 dollars on Amazon and more at your FLGS.
-A durable, felt-lined box that functions as two dice trays. I know that it's cardboard, but it's really nice. It feels really nice. It's beautifully designed, and the dice roll great in it. Felt-lined rolling trays sell on there for about 8 dollars, and boxes (with no lining) go for around $20.
-A little foldout double-sided map of the Sword Coast and the city of Waterdeep. You could probably pick up a map that slightly bigger on DM's Guild for $9-12.
-Finally there are the cards. Twenty illustrated, double-sided cards detailing Laeral's expert insights on key characters, locations, and lore from across the Forgotten Realms. I DM for kids and adults who, for the most part, haven't grown up steeped in the lore of D&D. Most of them have no idea what Waterdeep is or who Drizzt is. They didn't grow up playing the Baldur's Gate games, forging virtual camaraderie with the characters of the realms. I love being able to have them make a check and handing them this beautifully illustrated concise card. My only disappointment is that there aren't more of them. There is nothing comparable for this.

Either way, to round all this up, you would need to spend about $45.00, conservatively. And you would have to make up the quick reference cards on your own, which I have done. It just takes time and materials.

So after I read a few reviews for this set, I took a chance and I bought it at a great deal. I love the artwork and silver glimmering on the box, both sides and I love the color blue of this set. The Dice are lightweight but most dice are. These are a bit larger than most dice I have and really like the larger size of the double D20's. After careful look at all the dice and their numbers, the paint on the numbers and D&D symbol all look perfect on mine. I haven't done a salt water test but after a couple of rolls they all seemed random enough for me. The cards are detailed and have great artwork and decent backstory on quite a few characters and places. The map is a nice option and size for reference or behind the DM Screen use. I really like this one is printed on both sides with the north sword coast on one and the large city of Waterdeep on the other. I am sorry about the others who believe they had defective dice. But I do believe this set is perfect for me, in perfect condition, and I love all the accessories that came with it. If you get a set like I did you will not be disappointed. This really makes me excited to start a Icewind Dale game.

You get quite a bit in this little box for under $15.

You get a very pretty set of acrylic dice. The colors are very potent, and they have a nice shimmer in the light. I was worried about the silver numbering, but they're surprisingly readable. Very nice Laeral themed dice.

Oh also, the d20's are MASSIVE. I mean, a good few scores larger than most other d20's I own. They are chunky, and very satisfying to roll.

You get a set of cards with AMAZING art on them. On the back of each card, you get at least a couple paragraph description/overview of whatever is pictured on front. There is some nice lore, some nice additional details, and plenty to assist with Roleplaying Laeral on the fly.

You get a small poster map, one side of the sword coast, the other side of waterdeep.

Then, the cherry on the cake - you get an actually nice quality box (felt lined), that doubles as a dice tray. I like the idea of rolling Laeral's themed dice, in Laeral's themed dice tray. Looks nice on the desk too, when it's all closed up.

Highly reccomend for any DM running Waterdeep, or any lore-heads of the forgotten realms.

Not the cheapest dice but it's a great starter set. Having multiple d6s plus a pair of d20s makes for a really nice experience compared to having a single 7 piece set to start out with, and the oversized d20s feel great in the hand. The & dnd symbol for the 20s on the d20s can be a plus or minus depending on how into wotc's branding you are. I don't mind them. The box is an awesome addition and makes for a really awesome rolling tray. It holds up and the felt lining is nice. The cards are pretty cool if you care about Sword Coast lore, I've never really used them but they are nice.

Overall it's a great way to have a first (or additional) set of dice and also makes a great addition to the Starter Set or Essentials Kit if you're buying for someone that's new to dnd.

Overall if you're looking to get a nice set of dice and like this color, this is a great set of dice. The chonky d20's are the start of the show, though the dice geometry across the board is not my favorite. The color I think looks better than what you see in the product photo. The accessories, especially the box / dice tray is also sharp looking.

I have purchased this Forgotten Realms Laeral Silverhand's Explorer's Kit four times during the last four years. I paid between $15 and $20 for these each time. The dice are well made and a hit with my DM and friends! The box is great at keeping everything together and also as a dice tray too. If you are tired of watching your friends roll one d6 over and over, get them this set! If your D20 has not been behaving, fear not, this set has two good boys! The feel of these dice are so satisfying to roll too. 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente conjunto de dados
Reviewed in Brazil on March 9, 2022
