Forklift attachments fasten to the carriage or forks and provide more versatile capabilities for the vehicle other than moving pallets. These include harnessing items with odd shapes, grabbing, tilting, or eliminating the need for pallets altogether.

The simplest, most common forklift attachments are forklift extensions, which fit over the existing forks and extend the length for extra support of long or large objects. Forklift extensions are made with heavy duty steel and have a safety heel restraint. Fork extensions should not exceed the original fork length by more than 50%.

Another common forklift attachment is the forklift boom or forklift extension boom. Forklift booms provide the same capabilities as a boom crane. Also, like fork extensions, fork truck booms are easily mounted on the forks. A fork lift boom can be telescoping or non-telescoping. The telescoping forklift boom extension allows handling of very long loads such as pipe. Booms can be fixed or raise vertically or in an orbital pattern.
